By 1980, the second-generation Camaro had already been on the streets for several years. With low and wide proportions, the “Super Hugger” was already a hit. It was vastly different in exterior design from the first generation, with a European influence producing a cleaner and more aerodynamic silhouette. This example is a restored, numbers-matching, 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, with its original 350ci engine and 83,000 miles on the odometer. Repainted in 2018, this 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 retains its original color of dark blue. It features new BF Goodrich tires, with white lettering for that extra period-correct touch. The exterior retains the Z28 badges, as well as the “Air Induction” Z28 pinstriping on the hood. With a focus on maintaining the car’s originality, the interior has also been refreshed. It’s finished in white, which contrasts nicely with the dark blue exterior. Inside, switches and controls remain intact, while the interior also features the luxury of air conditioning. Under the hood is the original 350ci engine. Although rebuilt in 2016, this engine is numbers matching for authenticity. The 350ci (5.7 liter) engine boasted 185 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque when new, and with a recently rebuilt engine, you’d expect our subject car to match those figures today. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission. This 1980 Camaro Z28 also features a new gas tank and a new battery.
