The Ford Mustang was not only the Blue Oval's first foray into pony cars; this new model singlehandedly created the segment. Such was the success with young buyers when released in 1964 that the model stayed in production for decades, and continues to this day. The Mach 1 denomination was brought to the lineup in 1968. It described the Mustang's most potent option. It came with a 428 cu in (7.0 L) Cobra Jet FE engine. Our subject car is a tribute to this historic model. This 1971 Ford Mustang 429 Cobra Jet Tribute is a lovingly crafted recreation of that iconic car. Located in Florida with just 6000 since a rebuild, it features a host of upgrades to appeal to buyers.
This 1971 Ford Mustang 429 Cobra Jet Tribute has been finished in a blue exterior with a white interior with blue carpeting. It rides on a set of vintage Ford rims that are wrapped in Cooper Cobra G/T rubber. Options such as power steering and power disc brakes up front ensure that driving this classic automobile is no arduous task. Last year, in 2020, our subject Mustang underwent a mild rebuild, which in addition to the engine, saw the installation of a new gas tank, along with a rebuilt front end. In addition, a brand-new tachometer has been installed, and included in the sale is the boot for the convertible top.
The "429" addition in the 1971 Ford Mustang 429 Cobra Jet Tribute stems from the engine displacement. This custom-built Cobra Jet 429 engine features a mild competition camshaft. It has had only 6000 miles put on the build since. The heavy-duty C-6 transmission has been rebuilt with a 2200/2400 torque converter. Handling the power, the vehicle's rear has also been totally rebuilt, including a 9" w/ 3.55 traction lock/limited-slip differential. Also included is a Holley standard pressure electric fuel pump as well as an MSD ignition. Upgrades include a set of ceramic-coated Hooker headers finishing up with a Flowmaster muffler.
