In the 1930's American car manufacturer Ford was under pressure to come up with an answer for the fierce competition by their rivals, Oldsmobile. The challenge was to make a car that stood out from traditional fords but wasn't as unobtainable as their super-luxury Lincolns. The result was the Ford Deluxe, a mid-market priced car with a design that stood out and offered luxury and comfort. This particular custom '39 De Luxe Convertible is the epitome of a "classic with a modern twist" and gleams in the sunshine state, Florida, with just over 15k miles done.
This 1938 Ford Deluxe Convertible has a seemingly flawless exterior painted in metallic silver with pink stripes running along the sides of the vehicle. The stock chrome bumpers have been removed, giving the body a unified finish. The all-steel body reportedly includes the Deluxe's original panels, which now sit on a Fat Man chassis. The car has a black soft-top canvas, a Magnaflow exhaust and power windows, and locks. It features a mustang 2-inch front with coil-over shocks, as well as an 8-inch ford rear sitting on a set of Boyd wheels. Stopping power is courtesy of disc brakes up front. It all rides on Air Ride with air shocks in the rear. The interior is just as impressive. What you get is a set of light-grey leather rumble seats that match the installed '56 Oldsmobile dash and leather door panels. The Deluxe Cobertible features a Vintage Air A/C system along with a heater. Things have been brought into the 21st century with digitalized instrumentation that sits behind a two-spoke chrome steering wheel.
The centerpiece of this build is the ZZ4 350ci crate engine that can produce up to 355 horses. This Ford Deluxe is paired with the 700R4 automatic transmission. The motor is coupled with an MSD ignition, a Mallory distributor, and an aluminum radiator.
The 40s and the American automotive scene were geared more towards cruising and luxury; performance was not a priority. Being behind the wheel of a 40s machine is an experience; its smooth and refined drive quality and interior appointments make for the perfect weekend cruiser with friends and family.
