The first-generation Ford Mustang was introduced from 1964 to 1973, creating a new automobile class known as the ‘pony car’. Arguably, no car in history affected the way Americans perceive automobiles as the Mustang did. Our subject car, a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, was an instant success that became the basis for Carroll Shelby’s GT350. This particular example of the 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback is located in Florida and appears to be in admirable condition with no rust. It has all original components and has been freshly wrapped by the previous owner. As a bonus, this Mustang has always been garaged throughout its life.
Wrapped in an elegant green, this 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback is originally ‘Rangoon Red’ in color. It rides on Goodyear Decathlon tires, which have black Mustang center caps. Also included is the Mustang Fastback 2+2 badge package. The classic interior decor group is finished in black. The fastbacks were called 2+2’s because they had two adjustable driver and passenger bucket seats in the front and two-fold down rear seats included as standard. The dashboard is equipped with a glovebox, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, speedometer, wiper, light knobs, AM radio, and temperature controls. A deluxe steering wheel with a stock turn signal is also included.
The 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback houses a 3.3L 200CID six-cylinder “T-code” engine. This power-plant is backed with a 3-speed automatic transmission. When talking numbers, this engine produces 120hp at 4400rpm and 190 pound-feet of torque at 2400rpm. This engine uses a one-barrel carburetor, and the rear suspension consisted of a pair of leaf springs and two diagonally mounted shock absorbers.
