The early FJ40 series of Land Cruiser has become iconic for their tank-like design and consistency, bomb-proof motors, and complete dependability off-road. But this 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 adds an interesting twist to the tried-and-tested formula. It’s not just the tangerine orange paintwork and full frame-off restoration that makes this Land Cruiser—located in Golden Colorado—unique to the enthusiast market. Under the hood of this Japanese icon lies an American 350ci small block Chevy motor. With 300hp and a host of upgrades to keep up with the new-found power, this Cruiser is a desirable alternative to the norm.
Finished in Tangerine Orange, this 1971 FJ40 Land Cruiser has undergone a full frame-off restoration. With only 1700 miles on the build, it remains in restored shape and features a host of aftermarket parts. Externally it sits on Cooper all-terrain tires, connected to a mini-truck front axel and Bilstein suspension both front and rear. A roof-rack has been installed for extra carrying capacity, with an LED light bar mounted for added visibility. The top itself has been re-weather stripped. Attached to the front is a Warn M8274 winch with a high torque gear reduction starter. Inside, seating and comfort have been upgraded with real-leather front bucket seats. To add to the all-weather usability, this Land Cruiser features an aftermarket heater. Also included are Auto Gauge aftermarket meters and Rhino-lined flooring.
Under the hood of this 1971 FJ40 is a 350 small block chevy engine with 300hp. It’s connected to a 300 Turbo automatic transmission and Toyota’s lower geared 3-speed transfer case. Cooling is taken care of by an aluminum radiator with a high-output water pump that uses Toyota seals and gaskets, while fuel is delivered via a Fitech 800hp fuel injection setup. To add to the already impressive list of specs, this Land Cruiser features a Detroit Locker differential, disc brakes all around, and Saginaw power steering. Last but not least, an extra 20 gallons of onboard petrol reserve capacity has been added.
