Aston Martin is probably one of the few carmakers that can say that they don’t make a single ‘bad’ car. Take this low mileage 2022 DB11 for example, an exquisite piece of engineering. Elegant, powerful and luxurious; it is possibly the ultimate grand tourer. Production of the V12 version started in late 2016, with this V8 version making its debut in mid-2017. Both would stay in production (along with the Volante convertible that came in late 2017) until the DB11’s replacement by the DB12 in 2023. The DB11 marked the start of a new era of Aston Martins, dubbed the “second-century plan”. It was an undeniable hit when launched, with big names like Jeremy Clarkson praising the vehicle (he labeled it as “phenomenally good”. The V12 version was updated in 2018 and the V8 engine received an update in 2021.

The main exterior paint color is Emerald, paired with a black roof. The brake calipers are also black, and live behind a set of 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels wearing Bridgestone tires. The design of this sleek body is more than just for looks. The extensive use of aluminum makes it lighter. The underneath of the car is designed to minimize lift, and the C-pillars work with the boot lid through a duct system (AeroBlade) to produce the effects of a rear spoiler without actually having one. The DB11 coupe is a 4-seater, and this one has an Obsidian leather interior. The infotainment system contains an 8-inch display, but the real highlight of the dashboard is probably the push button gear selector. Legroom for rear passengers is limited but the trunk capacity is quite good for the class, with 270 liters.

The 4.0L twin-turbo V8 is sourced from Mercedes-AMG (the M177). While some may prefer the smoothness and greater horsepower of the V12, many prefer the sound of the V8. The big advantage of it being smaller is the 115kg weight saving compared to the V12 and it’s not exactly slow either, with factory figures stating that it makes 528hp. The rear-mounted transmission is a ZF 8-speed automatic unit, driving the rear wheels. Being a grand tourer, it needs to handle well while also being comfortable. For this purpose, Aston Martin has fitted anti-roll bars and double wishbone suspension system with coil springs. The balance between sportiness and comfort can be selected by choosing between the 3 driving modes: normal, Sport and Sport+.

Selecting an Aston Martin as your next vehicle shows that you are a certain sort of person. The type that appreciates British design and sports car engineering, and most likely, a James Bond fan at heart too. This iconic British automaker has had a long association with Ian Fleming’s superspy, in film at least. In the books, Bond is a Bentley man, but when the films were being produced, Aston Martin became the selected vehicle of Mr. Bond. In fact, you can find Aston Martins in over half of the Bond films produced to date. Today’s Aston Martin of choice is a 2020 Aston Martin DB11 Volante from Fort Myers, Florida. The DB11 debuted 2016 and was made until 2023, in coupe and convertible (Volante) forms. This particular example packs a twin-turbo V8 and just under 6,100 miles on the clock.

The Aston Martin DB9: a car that was so well-designed it stayed in production for 12 years, and continues to impress over 2 decades after its launch. In 2004, it took over the DB line from the outgoing DB7. While it’s predecessor was often criticized as being a Jag XJS in a fancy dress, the DB9 was developed as a fresh car (in fact, there is some speculation that Aston Martin avoided calling it the DB8 to distinguish it even more from its predecessor). The convertible version was named the DB9 Volante and debuted in September 2004 with softer suspension than the coupe and extra reinforcement to protect the occupants in case of a rollover incident.

Historically, British sports and luxury automaker Aston Martin applied the Vantage tag to existing vehicles, usually to signify the higher-performance derivative of them. All that changed in 2005 when they decided to make Vantage a separate model. Designed by Henrik Fisker and Ian Callum, the first proper generation of the Vantage was a huge success, and the second generation continued on a lively streak. This 2012 Aston Martin Vantage V8 Roadster is a lovely first-generation example and has received a recent servicing. With its soulful V8 engine, Sportshift automated manual gearbox and just over 24,000 miles on the clock, it’s now up for grabs in The Villages, Florida. Do you like it? You definitely do!
