Panoz…who’s that? Panoz is a Georgia-based automotive outfit that makes small-volume sports cars. Founded by Dan Panoz in 1989, the company is still around! One of their more popular offerings is the Esperante, which was made across two generations. The first ran between 2000 and 2007, with a second being offered between 2014 and 2015. As you’d expect, these are low-volume cars and you don’t see many of them around. Today, we have a first-generation 2002 Panoz Esperante for sale from Matthews, North Carolina. It’s got 23,000 miles, a 4.6-liter Ford Cobra V8 and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Plus, this rear-wheel drive machine is reportedly on sale by the original owner, and includes all original documents and brochures. It’s undergone a complete inspection at the Panoz factory in November 2025 too.
Exterior and Interior
This 2002 Panoz Esperante features a Sapphire Blue paint job which is reportedly protected by a recent ceramic coating. The car’s styling is certainly interesting and distinctive, and you can definitely see inspiration from many large automakers, such as BMW and Ferrari in the design language. The bodywork is underpinned by an aluminum chassis and the whole thing rides on a set of shiny silver alloy wheels. Yes, this is certainly a head-turner because of its rarity, and people will be scratching their heads to identify it. Helpfully, Panoz has placed badging and script on the rear of the car, along with the twin tailpipes that lets the Cobra V8 do its barking. A car cover is also included in the sale of this machine. The interior of this 2002 Panoz Esperante comes in tan and can accommodate two adults. It’s well-equipped, with air conditioning and an aftermarket sound system. You can also see some BMW Z8 design inspiration here, particularly with the centrally-mounted gauge pod. There’s also some wood trim, chrome-plated door handles and power windows. Plus, there’s a black convertible top that can be lowered for open-air drives when desired.
Engine
This 2002 Panoz Esperante uses a 4.6-liter Ford Cobra V8. It’s reportedly rated at 305hp and 320lb-ft as per official literature. The engine drives the rear axle through a 5-speed manual transmission. Thanks to its light weight, 0-60 can be done in around 5 seconds.
