Today’s luxury cars are dripping with tech, and possibly packing electric powertrains as well. They’ll do everything you ask for except make you a cup of coffee. But with all those electronic systems, computer menus and digital displays, things can get a bit impersonal. After all, a slew of touchscreens doesn’t feel luxurious, does it? That’s why if you want a bit of old-school luxury, a car like this 2008 Bentley Continental GT is the perfect way to go. It’s got a powerful yet whisper quiet V12 under the hood, and comes with plenty of modern features. Yet, those features are largely controlled by tactile buttons and knobs instead of finicky menus on a soulless touchscreen. Coming to you from Lawrence, New York with a mere 19,156 miles reported on the odometer, this car is ready to be your daily driver if you want a bit of digital detoxing without having to go into the 1960s.
One of the most luxurious yet potent sports cars that money can buy is the Bentley Continental. Available in GT coupe and GTC convertible forms, it’s been around since 2003, and is now on the fourth generation. The Bentley Continental GT/GTC was the first new Bentley released since Volkswagen Group acquired Bentley in 1998. Hence, it’s a fantastic car with which to treat yourself if you’re a petrolhead who’s reached your life’s aspirations and goals. So why not check out this 2022 Bentley Continental GTC V8 from St Petersburg, Florida? The car has got under 6,000 miles on it, making it basically brand new, and comes with a whole list of premium luxury features.
Coachbuilding is an art form from a bygone era. While a coachbuilt Bentley is almost unheard of these days, a few decades ago it was not so uncommon for Bentley customers to have their car sent to a coachbuilder to commission a more exclusive body. One such example is this exquisite 1951 Bentley Mark VI Special Boattail Speedster. The Mark VI was introduced in 1946 as Bentley’s first post-war model. The chassis were provided to independent coachbuilders and were built as 4 door saloons, 2 door saloons and 2 door drophead coupes. It was also available with a factory body, the “Mark VI standard steel sports saloon”, a 4-door saloon. 1202 4 ½ Litre models were built between 1951 and 1952, with just 180 of them being coachbuilt. Part of the reason for the low overall production numbers was the shortage of steel in Europe, which reportedly led to used models appreciating in value. Some of the more well-known coachbuilt models were those done by H.J. Mulliner, but many other coach-builders also commissioned these cars, including this example built by Northern Coachbuilders of Derbyshire, England.
