In 2002, Bentley Motors came to the Paris Motor Show to launch their first new model under the Volkswagen group: the Continental GT. It would also be the first modern Bentley to be built using mass production techniques. This made it much more affordable (by Bentley standards at least) than the other Bentley models at the time, attracting a new and larger customer base. Over the years, it has seen many changes and upgrades, but still remains true to its original concept. In its 3rd generation by 2021, the Continental GTC came with a lighter body, 2 engine options and a technologically advanced aluminum body.
Exterior and Interior
The design of the early Bentley Continental GTs was not to everyone’s taste, but there is no doubt now that the newer ones are some of the most beautiful cars on the road. From the get-go, it’s obvious that this is a Bentley – even in this unassuming Titan grey exterior color. It has huge 20” painted twin-spoke alloy wheels, a bright chrome main grille, wing vents, lower bumper grilles, chrome trim down the side and along the rear bumper and quad exhaust tips. The interior is very elegant finished in a 2-tone combination with primarily the Portland color. It has the famous Bentley rotating display (that offers a choice of plain woodgrain dashboard, analog dials and the digital display), a Bentley Bang & Olusfen sound system, mood lighting and LED welcome lamps by Mulliner. The interior is a work of Bentley art, with contrast stitching, diamond knurling, dark fiddleback eucalyptus interior trim, a chrome pinstripe in the door waistrails, deep pile front overmats and lighted “BENTLEY” sill plaques. In terms of option packages it has the Mulliner driving specification, extended range paint combination (solid & metallic), the city specification, and the front seat comfort specification. Trunk space is not huge, but there is quite a reasonable amount, especially for a convertible grand tourer.
Engine
While luxury and comfort are very important in a grand tourer, so is performance. Which is why the GTC V8 is fitted with a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for immediate shifting. The all-wheel drive system helps deliver the power evenly and maintain traction even in trickier road conditions.
Created to honor Bentley’s storied success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this 2013 Bentley Continental GT W12 Le Mans Edition is a particularly special example of the marque’s grand touring coupe.
