Audi’s S range is all about creating cars with the perfect balance of performance and practicality. This 2022 Audi S5 Cabriolet is no exception. It has enough power and sporty characteristics to be fun on the track, while being practical enough to drive daily. The A5 series was first introduced for the 2008 model year and is now in its 3rd generation (with the 2022 S5 being of the 2nd generation). It offers a bolder design than the A4 with a choice of 4-door sportback, 2-door coupe and cabriolet body styles, compared to the traditional sedan and wagon range from the A4. It has a diverse range of engine options, ranging from a 1.4L inline 4 to a 2.9L twin turbo V6 (in the RS5). The S5 is the ideal compromise, offering more power and handling abilities than the A5s, while being more comfortable and convenient for daily use than the RS5s.
Exterior and Interior
There are many convertibles that only look good when the roof is down. The S5 is not one of them. In fact, the design is so seamless, in this gray body and black roof combination, it looks almost like the coupe. The Daytona gray pearl effect body color also works great with many silver accents used on this car, including the mirrors and around the front windshield. Audi has been quite liberal with the S logos on both the exterior and the interior of this car (including the Audi S Beam on the front doors), reminding you that it has that extra performance waiting to be utilized when needed. The black leather interior is quite understated. In fact, aside from the aforementioned S logos and the carbon fiber interior trim, there is very little to suggest that you are in the sportier version of the A5, which is a good thing as it indicates that the creature comforts have not been compromised. It even retains the heated and cooled box in the glove compartment.
Engine
The S5 has been given a 3.0L turbocharged V6: more powerful than the A5 engines, without being too thirsty or too powerful to be inconvenient to drive around. The 8-speed automatic transmission is also a very standard piece of equipment that is ready to deal with both types of usage. Of course, it wouldn’t be an S car if the exhaust was inaudible, which is why the S5 is also fitted with a sport exhaust resonator.
The Audi S5 is the performance derivative of Audi’s A5 compact executive car. The A5 is positioned as a sportier and more coupe-inspired variant of the A4, especially when in five-door Sportback form. That’s what we have here today, a 2024 Audi S5 Sportback from Houston with barely any mileage to speak of. It’s an all-wheel drive executive express with the Black Optic package, Nappa leather seats and a potent 3.0-liter V6 under the hood. So, if you want a car that’s quick, sporty-looking and compact, but still able to perform family duties with ease, here’s a potential contender for your driveway or garage.
