Overview of 1961 Nash Metropolitan Custom Build For Sale by Owner

The Nash Metropolitan is a subcompact car built by Nash Motors Company from 1953 until 1961. According to former editor of Motor Trend magazine Jack Nerad “the Metropolitan's staying power and its never-ending cuteness earned it a place among the Greatest Cars of All Time”. Although the Metropolitan is clearly a little and adorable car, people who build hardcore street shakers seem to love choosing it for strap mighty engines. To be fair, it carries a sense of amusement when a car such as the Nash Metropolitan demolishes a modern aggressive drag car. This 1961 Nash Metropolitan is one such custom build car, which generates wicked power thorough a robust Chevrolet big block engine. It's a fantastic example of heaps of horsepower operating in harmony with excellent handling. Located in Pennsylvania, this dainty, scaled and balanced custom-built pro streetcar awaits its next lucky buyer.

Exterior and Interior

This 1961 Nash Metropolitan enjoys a lustrous combination of green and gold paint job. It features custom fender-exit exhaust with custom exhaust headers which are exposed on either side of the front fenders. The custom designed single wheelie bar and parachute attached to the rear end hint at the amount of acceleration this little car can deliver. The cozy cabin of this 1961 Nash Metropolitan boasts many one-off custom built components including a hand built dash, dash gauge cluster and switches. This full custom tan leather interior is fitted with a full roll cage with halo and feature "M" logo on seats. Additionally, it offers tilt steering with billet half-wrapped steering wheel and a B&M pro-ratchet shifter.

Engine

What takes the cake of this 1961 Nash Metropolitan custom build is the fabled 540ci Chevrolet big block engine, also can be referred to as 8.8L V8 engine. Utilizing a drag racing-grade Transmission Specialties turbo 400 transmission, this powertrain conveys a whopping 620hp on pump gas. This engine also enjoys H beam rods, JE pistons, Pro Comp aluminum cylinder heads, Hydraulic cam, Eagle steel crank, Comp roller rockers, and a one off custom polished sheet metal tunnel ram intake. Moreover, it is fitted with a Ron Davis custom aluminum radiator and 15-gallon handmade aluminum fuel tank. Stable road control and handling is courtesy of a custom chassis with wishbone 4 link coil over suspension, and custom Mustang II rack and pinion steering.

1957 Nash Metropolitan Series III

PENDING SALE
SOLD

At first glance, the Nash Metropolitan is a cute subcompact car that would be ideal for a weekend cruise. However, the Metropolitan is often used by Hot Rodders to build rocket ships that bang out a gazillion horsepower. If you are a purist who like to appreciate a car for what it was designed to be, this one is for you. What we have for you here is not a hot rod but a refurbished 1957 Nash Metropolitan 1500 Series III, which comes with its own adorable matching trailer. It received a slew of upgrades in 2020, and the custom trailer was built in Michigan around 2018 from a Metropolitan donor car. You can also expect a collection of Nash Gazette car club publications, two Metropolitan caps, and DVD "A Watch-Charm Rolls-Royce: The Story of The Metropolitan." included with the sale of the car. In addition, you get a jack, service manual, and the owner’s manual. Displaying 21,981miles on its odometer (TMU), this Nash Metropolitan awaits in Pennsylvania for its next lucky owner.
