What do you pull with a truck that can haul 4,000 lbs or more? Why none other than a travel trailer. In the business of travel trailers, there's no other brand as resilient, and they are known as the Airstream trailers. Airstream is an all-American company with its roots lying in a backyard in Los Angeles. With its establishment in 1920, Airstream grew to be a major competitor in the travel trailer business and was soon the only company of travel trailer builders to survive the Depression. What we have is an iconic 1963 Airstream Overlander 26ft, reportedly in excellent condition and shape.
Exterior and Interior
Airstream stamped their name in the world of travel trailers with their unique finish of chrome aluminum on their trailers. This 1963 Airstream Overlander 26ft is no different, as the gleaming chrome aluminum still looks as good as new. This Overlander sits on quad wheels with chrome hubcaps. It features multiple slide-type windows, with the door situated on the right side of the body. The interior sub-flooring is done in plywood for the sole purpose of providing an anchor point for appliances and flooring. An A/C has also been installed for a luxurious travel experience. A sink, beds, wooden trunks, and a large closet are all in place. An Igloo brand mini fridge is also part of the sale, with some more shelves and cupboards. This 1963 Airstream Overlander has an overall length of 26ft. A steel bumper is standard along with a 2” fiberglass insulation.
Engine
This 1963 Airstream Overlander 26ft, has a hitch weight of 260 lbs. It comes with 4-wheel drum brakes and two 1 ¾“axles. Considering that this is a travel trailer and thus has no engine, it will need to be hitched to an appropriate vehicle with a minimum towing capacity of 4000 lbs. This makes something like the Ford F150 an ideal choice, but any vehicle with adequate towing capacity can pull this home away from home. For something which is more than 50 years old, this travel trailer has aged well, a testament to the build and quality of the legendary Airstream. What makes this solid, is the all-metal and all-aluminum construction, with an all-riveted unitized body design.
