Overview of 1983 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition For Sale by Owner

Oldsmobile is yet another one of those American automakers who is, sadly, no more. Our country’s storied automotive history is littered with such manufacturers who gave us some truly spectacular machines; yet time and economics were unkind to them. But have you heard of the Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds range? You see, in 1968, Oldsmobile collaborated with renowned aftermarket tuning firm Hurst Performance to create a special line-up of sporty cars. They started with the Cutlass. By 1983, it was time to celebrate 15 years of this amazing partnership, and a line-up of special 15th Anniversary Edition Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds were made. This 1983 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition is one of just 3,001 units made, and comes to you with 14,152 miles. Currently residing in Hiawatha, Iowa, this car packs the iconic Rocket V8 and Lightning Rod transmission combo.

Exterior and Interior

Based on the Cutlass at the time, this 1983 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition wears a black coat of paint, with silver lower body and red accent striping for a truly distinctive appearance. As if that wasn’t enough, the car rides on 15-inch chromed Super Stock III wheels with red pinstripe accents and BF Goodrich Radial T/A white-lettered tires. With its angular chin, double headlamps and two-door body style with long rear overhang, it’s truly representative of what Eighties cars were like. The burgundy interior of this 1983 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition accommodates four adults across plush seats and there’s woodgrain trim as well for some luxury. The front seats are power adjustable, there’s air conditioning and even a push-button radio. You’ll also notice a 15th Anniversary badge on the dashboard, but the limelight is arguably stolen by the Lighting Rod shifting system with its trio of levers – yes, three levers for gear shifting! The lever closest to the driver is for your typical automatic gearbox operation with the PRND pattern that we’re familiar with, but the other two levers carry a warning on them. These are the Lighting Rod shifters, and they’re designed to let you quickly shift gears manually when at the drag strip.

Engine

Powering this 1983 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition is a 307ci Rocket V8 fed by a 4-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. The car is rear-wheel drive and uses that iconic Lightning Rod shifter for its 4-speed automatic transmission. It’s also got power front disc and rear drum brakes.
