BMW’s halo 5-Series has, and continues to be the revered M5. If you’re looking for a German executive express, the M5 has been at it since 1984. Initially offered with a straight six, it’s since borne a soulful V8, screaming V10 and has now entered the turbo era. Each generation of the 5-Series since the E28 has had an M5, and this 2006 BMW M5 Dinan 5.8 Stroker is from the E60 generation. Furthermore, it’s even more hardcore as renown BMW tuners Dinan have worked their magic on this already potent car. With just 87,000 miles done since new, it’s seeking an adventurous owner who won’t hesitate to open up whenever the conditions permit. The seller reports that preventative maintenance has been done, and the car comes with a Dinan serial numbered book.
Exterior and Interior
This 2006 BMW M5 Dinan 5.8 Stroker looks largely unchanged from a regular E60 M5, which is no bad thing. Wearing a Silver Gray Metallic paint job, it can inoffensively blend in with the traffic when desired. It’s only when you head round to the rear that the change is noticeable, with a single Dinan badge, low profile trunk lid spoiler and blacked-out tail lamps. The wheels are the stock M5 units which are suitably handsome in silver. A glass moonroof offers some stargazing opportunities too. Step aboard and the interior presents itself in black, with extended leather plus lashings of wood trim on the dash, center console and doors. Look at that cluster, and the 200mph speedometer, plus 9,000rpm tachometer redlined at 8,000rpm tell you that this isn’t a basic 5-Series.
Engine
What’s Dinan done to the engine? The E60 M5 came with a naturally aspirated 5.0L V10 that sang a high-revving soundtrack on the way to delivering 500hp, a song that made the hairs on the back of your neck tingle – even if you were the driver! This 2006 BMW M5 Dinan 5.8 Stroker, as the name suggests comes with Dinan’s stroker kit that takes it out to 5.8L, for a power output said to be near 630hp. You’ve also got Dinan proprietary forged crankshaft, lightweight forged pistons, lightweight connecting rods and it all comes together courtesy Dinan electronics and engine management software. Drive goes to the rear wheels via a 7-speed SMG-III sequential manual gearbox. While the top speed isn’t stated, there are videos that show Dinan M5s like this one maxing out the 200mph dial!
