One of the more eclectic creations of the 1970s, the DeTomaso Pantera is a blend of Italian design with American muscle. And yet, it has remained an often overlooked classic. But with values now rising, DeTomasos are quickly becoming hot property in the classic car market. Located in Manheim PA, and with just over 92,000 miles, this 1972 DeTomaso Pentera is one of 1131 produced in 1972. The car pictured is known as a desirable “pre-L”, or pre-facelift. The pre-facelift cars had more aesthetically pleasing chrome bumpers, as opposed to the facelifted car’s large rubber bumpers.
Designed by Ghia, the Pantera was a true product of Italian design. Featuring gorgeous lines that oozed European design language, the car was quickly considered one of the great designs of the time. This DeTomaso Pantera featured here is a “pre-L” version. The “pre-L” cars are favored for their exterior appearance, as they did not incorporate the USA’s mandatory 5mph bumper protection regulation. With originality counting for a lot when it comes to classic sports cars like this, those interested will be happy to know that this DeTomaso Pantera is still sitting on its original wheels. The seller also claims the Pantera has its original undercoating intact too, indicating that the car has been kept in good condition for all its life, not requiring a restoration.
This DeTamaso Pantera features Ford’s Cleveland V8 — a 351ci (5.8-liter) engine that output 330hp. The seller claims this Pantera is running on its original Air Cleaner.
