With Aston Martin leaning more to the performance side, and Rolls Royce leaning toward luxury, the 2021 Continental GT is the only high end car that combines the two characters into one. Its level of luxury rivals Rolls Royce and surpasses it in terms of technology, and its performance figures put most Aston Martins to shame. And while that was the case with all Continental GTs ever since the first generation, the 2021 Continental GT takes things to a whole new level in every way. The 2021 Continental GT is built on an all new platform which is stiffer, lighter and more responsive. Furthermore, the exterior and interior had been completely redesigned making it an all new model unlike the second generation. Crystal headlights, rotating infotainment screen, and a 207 mph top speed are just a few highlights. But before we go into more detail, check out the ones currently for sale at Exotic Car Trader.
Although it’s an all new model, the 2021 Continental GT is obviously an evolution of the old model and doesn’t stray away from the old philosophy one bit. And that’s the best way forward since the Continental GT is by far the most successful Bentley model ever. The first generation, built on the D1 VW platform, was so successful that the second generation which remained in production until 2018 was nothing more than a major facelift. Even so, the first and second generation sold around 70,000 examples in total. And although the 2021 Continental GT is built on the MSB Panamera platform, it's much more similar to the original than to any other model. The third generation turned out to be just as successful as Bentley had built 22,000 of them between 2018 and 2023 with the 2021 Continental GT being made in 5,003 examples. Up until 2022 there were no updates to note apart from the addition of a convertible and a V8 in 2019, and then a Continental GT Speed in 2021.
Likely the biggest improvement of the 2021 Continental GT over the previous generation is the interior. While the second generation still had the same basic design from 2004, the third generation gets a complete redesign to the point where the two look worlds apart. One of the most notable interior features of the 2021 Continental GT is the rotating screen which everyone is talking about. The infotainment screen assembly has three sides, one of which includes three gauges, the second is the same trim that goes around the cabin, and the third is the screen. The gauges and the trim sides make the cabin much cleaner and give it that vintage Bentley look while the screen makes it look just as modern as any other car of its generation. The choice between the two looks makes the 2021 Continental GT interior as unique as it gets. At the same time, the gauge cluster is now fully digital and doubles as infotainment, navigation and OBC. Apart from that, the cabin is much more bespoke than before with a ton of wood trim wrapping all around the cabin and stitching patterns more complex than ever. Virtually everything you see inside a 2021 Continental GT is nothing short of being a work of art.
The 2021 Continental GT is now noticeably lower than the old model while also being slightly longer. Yet, it keeps its beautiful coupe shape while the overall design looks like it was streamlined by wind giving the impression that it’s always moving at over 200 mph. The signature rear wheel haunches are sharper and more pronounced helping the 2021 Continental GT retain the muscular shape. Up front, the Bentley grille has increased in size but it sits lower than before and works perfectly with the rest of the design. But the Swarovski crystal headlights and tail lights are the highlights of the exterior. The headlights especially as they look like two huge diamonds which can’t be found on any other car regardless of how much it may cost. Down the side, a new wing vents in the shape of the flying B extends under the doors while the enormous wheels eat well into the wings and rear quarter panels making it look like a concept car that’s yet to enter production. In the rear, the tail lights are much thinner to go with the overall lower profile, while the dual oval exhausts and an aggressive diffuser tell everyone driving behind that the 2021 Continental GT is not just a pretty face.
The 2021 Continental GT gets a redeveloped W12 engine that’s more efficient than ever. But efficiency isn’t that important, in a car like the 2021 Continental GT. What’s more important are the horsepower and torque figures, 0-60 times and top speed. So, the 2021 Continental GT horsepower and torque sit at 635 and 664 lb-ft. The torque in particular has made quite a jump over the previous generation with nearly 100 lb-ft more. And for the first time, the Continental GT had fallen under 5,000 lbs and now sits at 4,947, some 150 lbs less than the previous model. The extra power and low weight punch the 2021 Continental GT to 60 in just 3.6 seconds while some independent journalists have managed times as low as 3.3 seconds. The top speed is equally impressive at 207 mph putting the 2021 Continental GT at least in the top five fastest 2+2 coupes on the market. Not only that, but it helps it outperform many Ferraris, Lamborghinis and McLarens. And that to a lower ride height, active anti roll bars, and a 48 volt active damping system, the 2021 Continental GT is miles more precise and engaging to drive than the second generation Continental. Lastly, the four wheel drive system now sends at least 83% of power to the rear wheels when in sport mode helping reduce understeer to a minimum which was one of the biggest complaints of the old Continentals.
The 2021 Continental GT had a starting price of $224,000 in the US. But since this is a Bentley, the options are ridiculously expensive, not to mention there are dozens of them. And once a few options have been ticked off, the price would easily reach $250,000 with some fully loaded press cars crossing $275,000. Now, on the used market, a 2021 Continental GT will go for between $190,000 and $210,000 depending on the mileage and options. Those prices are not that far off the starting price, but if the example has a few interesting options, it can be quite a discount.
The 2021 Continental GT is and will remain a modern automotive marvel. No other car combines the highest levels of luxury and supercar performance into a comfortable and safe package as well as a Continental GT. And with all the bespoke details both inside and out, the Continental GT is a great conversation piece if nothing else.
