Background Story of this 1977 MG MGB

Overview of 1977 MG MGB For Sale by Owner

Classic motoring takes many forms, but if one were to define it visually, it would always be a classic open-top experience with the sun down and no plans but driving nirvana ahead. Present today is the definition of classic motoring and takes shape with this 1977 MG MGB. This British open-top classic has just reported over 53,000 miles on its clock and is geared for smiles per gallon and turned heads as you drive by.

Exterior and Interior

One might think that turning heads as you drive by requires a machine that sports a hefty price tag, but this 1977 MG MGB with its red exterior proves otherwise; you really don't need to break the bank to look good and stand out. A walk around this British classic and you would find a clean exterior with an MGB sticker running across the side, with the Union Jack also making its presence known. The exterior also features its US spec bumpers that bring in added safety, a black convertible top, and a rear luggage tray on the boot. For wheels, you would find a set of period-correct wheels finished off in silver. The black interior cabin of this 1977 MG MGB is nothing short of the best place to be in to explore smiles per gallon. Step inside and you are treated to a factory clean interior that features an MG steering wheel, leather seats, a wooden gear knob, and one reasonable upgrade that takes form with an Alpine sound system ensuring your tunes are done justice.

Engine

While you didn't get a whole lot of displacement to play with, classic British motors bridged the gap with performance that was punchy and aggressive. Pop open the hood of this 1977 MG MGB, and what you will find in place is a 1.8 inline four motor capable of churning out driving memories on demand. A closer look at the engine bay and you would find a color matched valve cover and an upgraded air filter for that added grunt on acceleration. In true British open-top fashion, this machine channels all its performance to its rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, giving you complete control.

1975 MG MGB Roadster

Morris Garages, or MG for short, used to be an iconic British automaker, responsible for some stunning sports cars, as well as more workmanlike family sedans. Today, the brand is owned by the Chinese and churns out mostly SUVs. The spunky sports cars of yore are no longer, save for examples like this 1975 MG MGB from Charleston, South Carolina. The MGB was made between 1962 and 1980, as the successor to the MGA. Nearly 524,000 cars were made during this time, but not many were preserved as time progressed on. So, this car, with its 75,790 miles and replaced convertible top represents not only a great way to enjoy a weekend back road blast, but a pretty darn good investment as well.

After the war ended, the popularity of classic British roadsters skyrocketed. Brands like Triumph, Sunbeam, and MG were able to market a great deal of fun, affordable, and nimble roadsters to a new generation of baby boomers who were happy to lap them up. While we may no longer live in that era, we can certainly do our best to recapture some of the joy that piloting a British roadster can bring, thanks to our featured car. It’s a 1977 MG MGB Convertible, known to be a compact, affordable, and stylish car. Located in the Bronx, New York, this example is reportedly showing just under 20,000 original miles on the odometer and is accompanied by its owner’s manual. With its original paint and a manual gearbox paired to the well-known 1.8-liter inline-four, this MGB presents as a time capsule from the golden years of British roadsters.

1971 MG Midget

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$10,500

Imagine if an automaker made a car called Midget today! There would be mass uproar, massive social media campaigns of condemnation and a lot of flak to contend with. The world sure has become a rather touchy place. No such finickiness existed in 1961 when British sports car maker MG or Morris Garages released a diminutive two-seat roadster. They simply called it the Midget because it was one of their smaller offerings. Prior, the Midget nameplate had been seen on some of their other cars too. So what’s so funky about this 1971 MG Midget MKIII from Indiana, Pennsylvania? Well, for starters it’s a fantastic way to experience true, unadulterated sports car motoring because it relies on light weight and small dimensions to give you a good time rather than brute force and wallowing about. Granted, these cars are well built to stand the test of time. So call us ASAP if you want it.

1960 MG MGA 1600

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$44,995

Giant Killers. That’s what nippy British sports cars like this 1960 MG MGA are often referred to as. Unlike our typical American performance car with its large V8 and massive dimensions, British sports cars use small, frugal engines, dinky dimensions and light weight to punch massively above their class. This also makes them truly exciting to drive because remember, its always more fun to wring out a car to its very last drop of performance rather than be forced to merely toe the throttle for much of your driving time. With cars like the MGA, you can enjoy rorty revving engines and crisp cornering, all without exceeding the speed limit most of the time. If you’d like to get in on the classic British sports car action, this 3,850-mile car currently waits in Fort Mill, South Carolina, for a new owner.

1960 MG MGA

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$15,578

You may have heard of MG or Morris Garages. This British automaker started life in 1924, founded by a man named Cecil Kimber. Kimber was many things, including a race car driver, innovator, businessman and engineer. He famously said that “a sports car should look fast even when standing still”. No wonder he created some of the best driving machines, and even after his demise in 1945, the company stayed true to his philosophy for many decades thereafter. That’s why a British sports car from the 1950s or 1960s is considered to offer a fantastic driving experience, showcasing that you don’t need a lot of power or a massive engine to have fun. This 1960 MG MGA Mark 1 Coupe is a fine example of that, with its 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission. The car is for sale from Miami, and comes with 85,619 miles to its name.

1961 Chevrolet Impala Restomod LS1

The 1961 Chevrolet Impala is one of the most recognizable early-60s American coupes, known for its sweeping side trim, quad headlights, and jet-age design language. This example has been transformed into an LS-swapped restomod while retaining much of its original character inside and out. Finished in green with a white interior, the car features a recently installed LS1 V8 with approximately 94,601 miles on the engine. The firewall has been painted in candy apple red, highlighting the custom drivetrain installation, though the exterior paintwork remains unfinished and the seller has noted a quarter panel issue pending further documentation. Sitting on 22-inch wheels, this Impala blends classic styling with modern performance, presenting as a partially completed project with strong mechanical foundations.

1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$19,500

Arguably the most popular Mercedes-Benz model in the United States during the Seventies and Eighties, The R107 era of their SL-Class grand tourer saw over 204,000 units find homes. This was during an 18-year production run that spanned 1971 to 1989. Impressive as the figure may be for a luxury car, it’s even more admirable when you consider that just over 300,000 were made in total! In fact, more R107 SLs found homes Stateside than they did in Germany or anywhere else in the world. Today, there’s no shortage of fine examples, thanks to the car’s superb Mercedes-Benz build quality. Hence, this Texas-based 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is a rather sensible purchase to make, even if you have no idea about classic cars. With its 5.6-liter V8, 4-speed automatic gearbox and aftermarket Kenwood stereo unit, it’s a sound choice. Don’t worry about the 142,000 miles on the odometer, these cars are built to go the distance if maintained well.
