From 1990 to 2015 Ford's Special Vehicle Team or SVT as it is more commonly known produced some of the most powerful and noteworthy vehicles to grace our roads. During the 90s Ford fans were not satisfied with the regular Mustangs available, to cater to that demand Ford’s SVT created the Ford SVT Mustang Cobra from 1993 to 2004. While the Mustang was more of a pony car this was a pony and muscle hybrid variant. Up for grabs is a 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra Convertible in topping condition and with just 46,000 miles on the odometer.
Exterior and Interior
The 1996 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra Convertible was offered in only four exterior color options, this car has the Crystal White Clearcoat exterior paint job. Making this a distinct Mustang are Cobra emblems and lettering littered around the car, from the front grille to the sides and rear, and even the engine cylinder head cover sports a colored Cobra logo. The front bumper has been repainted as stated by the current owner. The rear is host to the body-colored spoiler and split taillights, which reportedly have been replaced with aftermarket sequential lights. Topping the car is a white vinyl convertible top. The white Exterior/White convertible top with black leather only 59 were made in this combination reported by current ownerIt sits on a set of 5-spoke aluminum wheels. Interior-wise this Mustang Cobra is bedecked in black leather trim. Behind the Cobra branded 4-spoke steering wheel rests the white-faced instrument cluster. Cobra logo stitched floor mats are in place. A modern aftermarket Pioneer Bluetooth-capable audio system is installed.
Engine
The 1996 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra Convertible uses a modular aluminum engine block, with a 4.6L displacement V8 engine coupled to a Borg Warner 5-speed T-45 manual transmission. Fun fact, the engine was hand-assembled by two-person teams at the Ford Romeo engine plant, hence this being called the Romeo engine. Power output is at 305hp along with 300 lb.ft of torque. While officially the 0-60 mph is clocked in at 5.9 seconds the car can manage an impressive 5.4 seconds as recorded by Car and Driver magazine. An aftermarket Magnaflow exhaust has been installed which should further increase the car's performance.
