The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, otherwise known as the G-Wagen, is one of the most iconic off-roaders out there. As at home in the sand dunes, as it is cruising the boulevard, the G-Class offers a mix of prestige and genuine overlanding ability. The G-Class was originally developed as a military vehicle and was created in conjunction with Steyr-Puch, an Austrian company, which still builds the G-Wagen to this day. As with many combat-inspired cars, it was soon decided to offer a civilian version, and the rest, as they say, is history. Today’s G-Wagon is a lot more luxurious than its forebears, and in AMG-spec, like our featured car, it’s a lot more potent, too. This 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class G63 AMG is powered by a handbuilt twin-turbo V8 engine, propelling it to speeds that hereto were unheard of for an SUV of this size.
Exterior and Interior
There’s no mistaking a G-Class for anything else on the road. Such is the size, scale, and design of this behemoth. But, despite its utilitarian roots, the G-Class still manages to portray the luxury and class befitting the three-pointed star. As a G63, our featured car gets the AMG treatment, which includes a Designo Magno Platinum exterior paint job and 20-inch AMG 5-Spoke wheels finished in black. You also get larger side-exit exhausts and the AMG script features on red brake calipers. AMG badges around the exterior hint at the performance, while a V8 Biturbo badge makes no bones about what lies under the hood. Inside the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class G63 AMG, you’re greeted with a Designo black leather interior, with the Designo Exclusive Leather Package that includes extended leather, with a leather-trimmed dashboard and door cards. The interior trim is optioned in Designo Piano Black lacquer, while the cabin also benefits from a factory-fitted rear-seat entertainment system. Rounding out the extensive options list is a multifunction heated steering wheel in black Nappa leather.
Engine
Under the hood of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class G63 AMG is a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine capable of outputting 563 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque for a 0–62 mph time of just 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. The G63 sends its power to all four wheels via an automatic gearbox.
The 2026 Mercedes-AMG G 63 continues the legacy of the iconic G-Class while blending handcrafted AMG performance with true off-road capability. Finished in stunning MANUFAKTUR Dark Olive Green Magno over a MANUFAKTUR Catalana Beige and Black leather interior, this example stands out with a rare specification that feels both heritage-inspired and modern. What truly sets this G 63 apart is the AMG Offroad Package PRO — a desirable factory upgrade that transforms an already capable luxury SUV into a serious trail machine. Combined with the handcrafted twin-turbo V8 and unmistakable boxy silhouette, this G 63 offers the rare ability to cruise in absolute luxury and confidently tackle demanding terrain without compromise.
This 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 blends factory performance with a suite of high-end upgrades that elevate it far beyond a standard AMG SUV. Finished in designo® Night Black Magno and equipped with the AMG Night Package, it pairs stealthy presence with unmistakable aggression. The handcrafted AMG 4.0L Biturbo V8 is further enhanced through an aftermarket intake, downpipes, and a Stage 2 performance tune, giving this G63 significantly more power and sharper throttle response than stock. Inside, the vehicle features a full custom interior, transforming the cabin into a bespoke luxury environment far richer and more dramatic than factory offerings. With its wide-screen displays, carbon fiber trim, and LED starlight headliner, this G63 is a uniquely personalized super-SUV.
