The Mercedes-Benz G-Class started life as a military off-roader and was developed into a civilian vehicle after a bit of prodding by the Shah of Iran. The first civilian variants entered the market in 1979 and, in true Mercedes-Benz fashion, started getting luxurious. By 1981, air conditioning and automatic transmissions were offered. AMG also got their hands on the G-Class and endowed it with more power, poise, and capability, as is their style. The G-Class nameplate continues to this day, and we've got a 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63 with just 8,800 miles on the clock. Whenever a Mercedes-Benz is mentioned, naturally, the first thing to cross your mind is a sleek & classy sedan. But the boxy and upright off-road-suited G-Class, (or G-Wagen) is a different kettle of fish entirely. The G-Class Mercedes-Benz came to be after the suggestion of the then Shah of Iran in 1972. Initially it was conceived as a military vehicle, and the first military in the world to use the car was the Argentine Army in 1981. Compared to an S-Class, the G-Glass is all hard corners and rugged edges. The G-Class is one of the longest-produced vehicles in Daimler’s history, spanning 41 years with two generations & many revisions. Our subject car is a 2017 Mercedes-Benz G-Class AMG with some tasteful additions and has clocked just 37849 miles. It remains one of the few SUVs to have been offered with a V12 engine from the factory.
