For a vehicle which was made as utilitarian as possible and initially meant for military use, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class also known as the G-Wagen is now a luxury four-wheel drive SUV that is firmly intended for discerning civilians. Its box-style design which stems from its military heritage is still evident in the new iteration of the G-Wagen, which is a styling cue that has continued from the first one way back in 1979. It’s still a body-on-frame SUV and comes with three (front, rear, and centre) locking differentials to this date, maintaining its tough and ‘go-anywhere’ ethos, despite the leather and wood-lined interiors with digital screens and all the creature comforts one would expect from a Mercedes-Benz. Engine

This 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class AMG G63 is powered by a 4.0L Mercedes-AMG designed V8 twin-turbo motor. It is mated to a TCT 9-speed twin-clutch transmission. The G63 is able to produce 577hp and delivers a maximum torque of 627 lb ft. It sprints from zero to sixty in just 4.5 seconds, and tops out at 137mph, although it can be extended to 149mph with the optional AMG Driver’s Package. And yes, as we mentioned earlier, this vehicle has the three locking differentials which are proudly actuated via switches on the dashboard in-between the center air vents.
