For sale is this 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL that serves as a homage to the SLR. The SLR (R standing for Rennsport) was originally created as a means of offering customer racers a race-ready variant of the already-popular 190SL. However, as the project was discontinued early on, there are very few 190 SLRs in the world today. However, thanks to cars like this 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL SLR Tribute, the memory of such unique cars can live on.
Exterior and Interior
This 190SL SLR Tribute has reportedly undergone a complete restoration. An extensive process, the restoration took four years until completion and included a complete rebuild of the car, a part of which was having the body bead-blasted on a rotisserie. The rebuilt car bears striking resemblance to the SLR GT car it pays tribute to. This 190SL also features a completely new red leather interior.
Engine
The engine in this 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL SLR Tribute is the original 1.9-liter 4-cylinder engine which, when new, put out 104hp and 114 lb-ft of torque. As part of the four-year restoration, the original engine was reportedly also completely rebuilt. Along with the engine, the original transmission has also been rebuilt. Additionally, the car features an electric fuel pump and a custom fuel tank built out of aluminum.
