Background Story of this 1931 Ford Model A

Overview of 1931 Ford Model A For Sale by Owner

Ford’s Model T paved the way for modern motoring in the turn of the century. Then, the Ford Model A arrived in 1927 and built further on its successes. Despite being made for just four years, Ford happily sold over 4.8 million units with various body styles. The Model A brought more power, performance and a conventional arrangement of pedals to the party. It also offered body styles such as the phaeton, which we have got here in the shape of this 1931 Ford Model A Phaeton. Up for sale in Mathews, North Carolina, this 4,872-mile machine comes with a 201ci four-cylinder engine and a 3-speed manual transmission. It’s also got a reupholstered interior, a car cover, and numerous extra parts and tools included with the sale.

Exterior and Interior

Sitting pretty on a set of powder-coated wire spoke wheels with whitewall tires and a matching spare on either side (that’s two spare wheels for you), this 1931 Ford Model A Phaeton wears a Washington Blue coat of paint. You can see that it’s a four-door phaeton variant, with an open-air body style and very little weather protection, just like a traditional horse carriage. However, there is indeed a full-length tan-colored canvas roof for some protection, but the car looks at its best with this roof folded down. Beneath the bodywork sits a factory Ford Model A ladder frame chassis. The interior of this 1931 Ford Model A Phaeton is very exposed as you may glean. It comes in brown and can accommodate even six adults if you please, thanks to front and rear bench seats. As for creature comforts, there are none. Don’t expect heating, let alone air conditioning, or even an AM radio, let alone Android Auto. Instrumentation is also minimal, as was common way back in the day.

Engine

This 1931 Ford Model A Phaeton has a 201ci 4-cylinder engine with a single-barrel updraft carburetor. It’s paired with a 3-speed manual transmission and drives the rear wheels. You’ve also got transverse leaf spring suspension, a 6-volt electrical system and mechanical drum brakes. All this means that you’ve got to drive this 95-year-old car with care. Just slow down and enjoy life in it.

The Ford Model A was the model that succeeded the Model T. Well, there was actually a Model A built in 1903 as Ford’s first-ever car but only 1,750 examples were made before the Model T made its debut and revolutionized the auto industry to this day. When the Model T was due for retirement, guess what took over in 1927. Another Model A! This second iteration ran until 1932, with over 4.8 million sold by the time the 1932 Ford line-up was revealed with its three derivatives. While 1932 Fords have found fame as restomods and hot rods (especially the Deuces or 1932 model year cars), the Model A is also a great hot rod platform. If you don’t believe us, just check out this 1931 Ford Model A Hot Rod for sale from Kingsland, Texas. It’s truly an amazing looking thing that will turn heads everywhere you drive it, 383 Stroker rumbling away! This hot rod has got just 5,000 miles on it too.

Contrary to popular belief, the Model A nameplate didn’t come after the immensely popular Model T. In fact, it preceded it, as the first car Ford ever made. Production ran between 1903 and 1094, with a mere 1,750 cars made. Then, the Model T came over and the rest was history…until it had to be replaced in 1927. Replaced it was…with the Model A, or rather the second iteration of Model A. Here, the Model A brought about many modern attributes. Unlike the Model T’s unusual pedal and gear layout, the Model A had the conventional layout that we see in manual transmission-equipped cars to this day. It also offered multiple body styles. As time passed by, these cars found a new use – as hot rods! Yes, that’s what’s become of this particular 1933 Ford Model A Roadster Hot Rod, with its spicy 383 Stroker, automatic transmission and aftermarket camshaft, plus many other things. With just under 1,200 miles on it since all that makeover work was carried out, this Portland-based car represents something quirky for those who dare.

PENDING SALE
$52,500

1973 was the last year of first generation Mustang production, before the smaller and more cut-down Mustang II hit the scene. So, choosing a car like this 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is representative of the end of an era, so to speak. Plus, since this is a potent Mach 1 variant, it’s got quite a bit of go-factor under the hood as well. This particular car hails from Lakeland, Florida, with 65,000 showing on its odometer. It’s also got a 351 Cleveland, throttle-body injection, carbon-fiber interior trim and accents, and much more goodies to enjoy. DM or call us right now if you’d like to take over custody of this rather special pony.

1934 Ford Model 40 Victoria

VERIFIED SELLER
PENDING SALE
$48,995

The 1934 Ford Victoria belongs to Ford’s Model 40 line-up, introduced in 1933 as an update to the earlier 1932 models. Styled under Edsel Ford’s guidance rather than Henry himself, the Victoria was one of fourteen body styles available in the range, positioned as a more upscale option with a focus on comfort and style. Its flowing lines and enclosed cabin gave it a distinctively refined look compared to standard coupes and sedans. The example offered here shows 62,300 miles and features thoughtful upgrades, including drivability enhancements, making it a practical choice for vintage enthusiasts who still want to enjoy the open road.
