Chevrolet’s Corvette needs no introduction at all, as everyone knows the story that dates back to 1953. Each generation of Corvette is special, but none more so than the historical first generation that ran for nine years. What we’ve got here is a nice 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 327ci that’s undergone a two year restoration by Kurt Schulze of Kurt Cars, and looks stunning as a result. What’s more, with just 87,000 miles on the clock, it’s been lightly run during its life, and is ready for more.
Exterior and Interior
The second generation may have brought upon the iconic pop-up headlamps, but the first generation’s distinctive quad-eyed view is appreciated by those who know, and 1962 was the last year that would see fixed headlights on a ‘Vette until 2005. This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 327ci underwent a complete repaint in its original Honduras Red paintwork during the restoration, which even included paint drips from the factory. What’s more, as a testament to the excellence of the paint matching, the passenger side headlamp has retained the original factory paintwork but you’d never know unless told. Sitting on a stylish set of five-spoke wheels and sporting the requisite brightwork and badging, this ‘Vette is a surefire head turner, especially when you lower its black convertible top. While you’re turning heads, you’ll be doing it from the black two seat interior that sports the iconic twin cowled design, including passenger grab handle, and instrument binnacle that sees a large semicircular speedometer flank a smaller central tachometer. There are no touch screens, dizzying arrays of buttons, or gazillion features to learn; this ‘Vette is a lesson in simplicity. Want entertainment? Try to catch some airwaves with the Wonderbar push button AM radio in the dash, but you won’t have much luck in most areas. Ah well, why not listen to the music of the engine instead?
Engine
This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 327ci is able to produce sweet music in response to your right foot’s input, thanks to its Chevrolet 327ci Turbo-Fire small block V8. We aren’t sure of the exact output of this V8, but it could vary between 250hp and 300hp. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a four speed manual transmission, and the seller reports that the engine and transmission are numbers matching.
