Not a replica — a factory-built continuation directly authorized by Bill Thomas Motors.
We at Exotic Car Trader are lucky to get our hands on some of America’s rarer automotive gems from time to time. Simply browsing our inventory can be like a sort of history lesson for those interested in cars. Today’s lesson is this 1964 BTM Cheetah Coupe – Clarence Dixon Tribute that’s currently up for sale The Villages, Florida. It’s an ultra-lightweight race car with official BTM-authorized continuation. A little background, the BTM Cheetah is the work of a Chevy performance tuner named Bill Thomas. Produced between 1963 to 1966, it was aimed at competing squarely with the AC Cobra, also known as the Shelby Cobra. Many Cheetahs were raced, and this car is a tribute built to honor the original Clarence Dixon race car. If you want to get your hands on something truly unique, hit us up ASAP.

This 1964 BTM Cheetah Coupe – Clarence Dixon Tribute looks like no other race car, with its squat stance, black paint job, and mere 1,700 pound weight. The car rides on a set of chunky race tires, and is underpinned by a full tube frame chassis with a 90-inch wheelbase. You’ll no doubt have noticed its extreme rearward positioning of the cab, almost over the rear wheels, granting it a sort of dragster stance. The wide body outlook with vented hood further accentuates this image. Yet, this race rocket comes with head and taillamps, which means you might be able to drive it on the road in some places. Lift up one of those stunning gullwing doors and you’ll be greeted by a very racy interior in this 1964 BTM Cheetah Coupe – Clarence Dixon Tribute. There are two low-back seats in black leather, a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a white gear shift knob. The gauges are all analog affairs and there’s precious little in terms of creature comforts on offer.

There’s a 427ci V8 in L88 spec, paired with a Muncie 4-speed gearbox with no driveline. A Corvette independent rear end with 4.11 gears and positraction runs the show. The engine also enjoys BTM 2.5-inch headers into 4-inch tubes for a characteristic V8 roar. It runs on 110 alcohol, so be aware of that. You’ve also got 4-wheel disc brakes, and coilovers for all corners.
