Overview of 1966 Volvo 122 S For Sale by Owner

Volvos are perceived as the ones who hold safety close to heart; for years, the Swedish automaker has been at the forefront of sheltering its passengers from the dangers of open roads. A closer look at the brand's history reveals a penchant for safety, alongside a significant racing history. Present today is one of the godfathers of Volvo's racing pedigree, and it takes shape with this lovely  1966 Volvo 122S. With a reported 23,740 miles run in, this is most definitely a rare bird and makes for a lovely way to dabble in some classic car racing or serve as a lovely collection piece. Included in the sale is a matching waterproof cover that safeguards this beauty during downtime, along with a wealth of literature to enhance its appeal.

Exterior and Interior

Volvos sport a unique personality; they aren't the everyday classic motor you see around, and that makes for turned heads and engaging conversation on every drive out. This 1966 Volvo 122S Coupe sports a light blue exterior and really plays into its classic car features. Speaking of its features, a closer look reveals a clean exterior that sports all its chrome and exterior components. You even get a set of period-correct Volvo hubcaps with steel wheels. Need further proof of how clean this classic is? A peek underneath, and you are most definitely convinced that you are in the presence of a machine that has extreme attention to detail.  The black interior cabin of this 1966 Volvo 122S is far from what a race-inspired classic should look like, but step in and you may change your mind. The interior cabin is mostly original and features a set of Corbeau Seats that don't take away from that classic car appeal but also give you the best driving position. The current owner reports new wiper blades in place for better visibility, and 3-point retractable seatbelts help uphold that quintessential Volvo personality.

Engine

Pop open the hood of this 1966 Volvo 122S, and what you will find in place is some spicy performance that takes shape with a rebuilt 1.8-litre "B18" inline-4 motor that is reported to have been bored 30 over. The current owner reports some very tasteful upgrades for some peppy performance. In place are SU carburettors for smooth performance, and even a Weber 2-barrel downdraft carburettor that is not installed but included in the sale. The performance upgrades are met with Bilstein shock absorbers and rebuilt front disc brakes for enhanced handling. In true tail happy fashion, this Swedish powerhouse channels all its performance to its rear wheels through a manual transmission.
