This last year of production 1987 Chevrolet El Camino SS showcases its quintessentially Eighties styling in an equally Eighties representative two-tone black and silver paint coat. From the front, it could be a regular Chevy midsize sedan, with its quad headlamps and chrome grille. Then, when you move to the side profile, the duality of the design is immediately apparent. The front half looks just like a sedan, but after the first low of seats, the cab tapers down with a coupe-esque roofline. Then, you’ve got the cargo bed with a rubberized bedliner. Meanwhile, as we open a door to enter the cabin, we note a plaque that informs us that the body was built by Fisher. This is known as coachbuilding, and while it was popular up to the Sixties, its prevalence had tailed off by the end of the Eighties. The El Camino has got to be Chevy’s most famous Coupe Utility, or Ute.
