Overview of 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL For Sale by Owner

The 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL was a popular German convertible automobile in the United States. It was the third generation successor of the legendary 300 SL Gullwing, introduced with a new design language and safety features that transformed the SL line-up into a totally different machine. While the SL went more luxurious, there was also a bigger engine: for the first time V8 powerplants were fitted to the SL-Class. This generation of Mercedes-Benz 560SL remains as one of the longest produced vehicles from the German Automaker. We're told that this particular example comes with the original engine, transmission, and even the original leather interior. This classic German has only clocked a mere 21,842 miles on the odometer. It is also equipped with power disc brakes to bring you to a swift stop. Kept in stellar condition, this red beauty has undergone recent servicing and is for sale in Kingwood, Texas.

Exterior and Interior

Inside you have the original tan leather, still looking mint after 36 years. There are wood panels for the center console and dash adding style contrasting against the black carpets, top dash and steering wheel. You’ve also got a working AC, a radio, and power steering to make your life much more convenient to drive this big classic Mercedes around.

Engine

Under the hood of this 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is the original, naturally aspirated, Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel-injected M117 V8 engine. Mated to the original four-speed automatic transmission with 21,842 original miles. Back when new, the 560SL was reported to output approximately 227 horsepower and around 287 ft-lb's of torque from the factory. It came equipped with an independent MacPherson strut with an anti-roll bar for the front suspension and an independent multi-link set up with anti-roll bar at the back.
