Overview of 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport For Sale by Owner

Whatever happened to Jeep’s famous CJ or Civilian Jeep series from 1948 until 1986? Well, you see, it became the Wrangler! Yes, that’s why the two have some serious commonalities in terms of not only styling, but sheer off-road ability. The Wrangler nameplate took over in 1986, with some comprehensive re-engineering, but the basic principles have remained true to this day. That’s why today’s 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport is a formidable off-road buddy to have. It’s got 118,000 miles and hails from Wichita, Kansas. Plus, it’s part of the TJ or second generation, which came for the 1997 model year.

Exterior and Interior

This 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport is ready for fun, with its Gun Metallic paint coat, aftermarket side steps and Gambler wheels. Its short and stocky two-door stance really makes it stand out, while that short wheelbase and relatively tight overhang at the front and rear make for excellent approach, breakover and departure angles. The vehicle’s black convertible top is manually operated, and allows you to really experience nature as intended. You can also remove the doors for even more freedom! Looking further, we see that the headlamps appear to have been upgraded with more potent units and that’s great for driving around when the sun goes down. The interior of this 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport comes in gray and features an aftermarket audio player with Bluetooth connectivity for your music. The vehicle seats four adults and features interesting red and blue designs on its gray fabric seats. It’s also got a heating and ventilation system for enhanced comfort. Granted, with the rear seats in place, cargo space is somewhat limited but you may fold them down for extra capacity if you’re not carrying passengers. Alternatively, you can remove them completely if you regularly adventure alone or with just one other person.

Engine

This 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport comes with the 4.0-liter straight six from AMC. Known as the 242, it’s a solid and dependable unit. It’s paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system. This means you can shift on-the-fly into two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There’s also a low range box for heavier off-road duties.
