When Volkswagen AG took over the Bentley brand, they wasted no time in debuting new models for the 2000s and beyond. The first Bentley under their stewardship was the Continental GT, in 2003. Currently on the third generation, this fine British luxurious Grand Tourer remains a firm favorite among celebrities, sportspersons, and business tycoons. These cars don’t age in the traditional sense either, but enter a new dimension of classic luxury as age piles on. That’s why this 2006 Bentley Continental GT Coupe is still a highly desirable purchase. With 39,000 miles on the clock, it’s fairly fresh too.
Draped in a suave Dark Sapphire paint job, this 2006 Bentley Continental GT Coupe rolls on contrasting silver five-spoke alloy wheels, and wears the Bentley crest with pride on its nose and tail. It’s no small car for a two-door, coming in at 189 inches long, and weighing over 5,000lbs, no flyweight either. It might also interest you to know that even though the Continental GT is mass produced, there are parts of it that are still assembled by human hands rather than robots, and subjected to a meticulous quality inspection. Step round back, and the oval exhaust outlets hint that this car does have a sporty persona too. Step aboard the luxuriously-appointed four-seat cabin that’s in a lovely shade of brown, with wood inserts, aluminum accents and fine materials wherever you look and touch, and it all comes together. A Bentley is a cut above the mainstream luxury car, and it shows. The tech count is impressive for 2006, as it should be, with electrically adjustable and heated seats, multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, cruise control, multi-zone climate control, comprehensive infotainment system with color screen, Bentley’s signature ‘organ stop’ air vents, and a Breitling analog clock in the center console. The glovebox also hides a 6-disc CD changer for music listening, via the Naim sound system that’s synonymous with Bentleys.
This 2006 Bentley Continental GT Coupe comes with a monster 6.0L W12 engine beneath its graceful hood, and if displacement itself weren’t enough, Bentley installed twin turbochargers. The result is 552hp and 479lb-ft, delivered to all four wheels via a 6-speed ZF6HP automatic transmission and Torsen permanent all-wheel-drive system. Since the Continental GT Coupe is a relatively heavy car, it can manage zero to sixty in under 5 seconds and keep on going until 197mph. Front and rear stabilizer bars ensure safe and predictable handling, while large disc brakes are on hand for plenty of stopping power. A 190-ampere alternator is installed to cater to the electrical demands when you’ve got all the creature comforts in full swing.
Turn back the clock to the early 2000s and the automotive landscape was filled with future icons. Choosing your poison would have been a tough task as each offering served its purpose well, but what if you wanted a machine that could do it all? A grand tourer would be the perfect way to cruise into the weekend in style, be a performance machine when needed and even be eyecandy to look at. Present today is a true grand touring icon from the 2000s and it takes shape with this lovely 2005 Bentley Continental GT. With a reported 71,000 miles on the clock, this machine is the perfect all rounder and your way of experiencing grand touring in all its glory.
It seems that the majority of cars are built with sportiness in mind. They’re all about setting record lap times and immense cornering speeds. Sometimes though, it is time to take a step back and appreciate the other end of the spectrum. This 2005 Bentley Continental GT with just 48,000 miles on the odometer is not a car you set record lap times in, but perhaps a new Canon Ball record. That’s more its forte. Wafting along the interstate in complete silence is something that most other cars struggle to achieve. With the name synonymous with Bentley for several decades, Bentley has built a reputation for creating one of the best, if not the best grand tourers of all time, and the rest as they say is history.
