Original or not, does it really matter? This 1965 Shelby Cobra Replica, built by Superperformance as a 2001 model replicates the same thrill and joy you get from the legendary 1965 Shelby Cobra. Developed by Carroll Shelby, a racing driver, who was surprised by the speed of the AC Ace during the Le Mans race in 1959. He retired from racing after a few years, wanting to build a race car of his own, and this is what he had in mind. A Ford Windsor 221 engine was mounted into an AC Ace chassis shipped from England, and within just eight hours, the legendary Cobra was brought to life. A.k.a ‘The Turd’ as nicknamed by Ken Miles, the Shelby Cobras have been brilliant machines that everyone must at least experience once in their life. This particular model we have today has undergone an engine rebuild on the 427 ci V8 engine, clocking less than 5,000 miles as reported by the current owner.
Undeniably one of Carroll Shelby’s greatest creations, the Mark III Cobra has everything an enthusiast could want. A sports car that is as powerful as it is beautiful, with one of the most powerful engines of its time, the Cobra MK III is one of the most desired automobiles when it first made its mark in history and remains to be a desired choice even today. Superformance builds MK III Cobras reportedly under license from Carroll Shelby himself, in an effort to keep this legendary automobile alive. Reportedly passing by the hands of only one owner, this Cobra MK III has only 7,800 miles on the clock. For greater transparency, this Cobra also comes with its complete build book MSO, dyno sheet and specs book as well as a cockpit tonneau cover on sale.
You must have heard of the Ford GT40. The GT40 project was born out of Henry Ford II butting heads with Enzo Ferrari, when a potential carrot was dangled by the latter in the shape of wanting to sell Ferrari to Ford, only for the carrot to be snatched away just before it was swallowed. Ford reportedly lost a few million dollars in audits of Ferrari’s facilities before Enzo Ferrari walked out on discussions due to a dispute regarding controlling the factory’s racing team. Enraged, Ford decided to build a car that would beat Ferrari at his favorite stomping ground, Le Mans and the GT40 was born. After a poor start in 1964, Carroll Shelby was brought in, shoehorned in a 427ci V8, helping the car secure its first victory at Le Mans in 1966, with subsequent victories in 1967, 1968 and 1969. Whilst you could buy an original GT40, they are extremely rare, which is why replica makers such as Superformance stepped into the fray. Superformance utilizes factory ‘rollers’ in some cars, whilst in others, it manufactures chassis and bodies. Here’s a 2016 Superformance GT40 Mk 1 that’s designed to emulate the iconic 1966 Le Mans winner. With just 502 miles on the clock, this extremely rare enthusiast-owned car comes to you from California where it’s registered and titled, and awaits its next discerning owner. It’s reportedly included in the Shelby World registry too, and is street legal being an SPCNS (special construction) vehicle.
