Overview of 1929 Ford Model A Roadster For Sale by Owner

In the mid-1920s, Ford was faced with a problem. After over 1.5 decades of market domination, the wildly successful Model T was losing its appeal and was being driven out by newer models from competitors. Ford’s answer to this problem was the Model A, which came out in late 1927. Unlike the Model T, it was available in a range of colors and body styles and offered new features and modern technology. Henry Ford was particularly insistent on its durability and manufacturability. In the years and decades to come, this policy would result in the Model A becoming a very popular base for hotrod projects, such as this one. Many Model A hotrods have gone on to achieve fame on film, on TV, and even as sports mascots.

Exterior and Interior

Contrary to the popular mental image of hotrods, the visual modifications on this car are quite subtle, while being distinctive. The steel body has been painted red, and the chosen shade helps the car stand out without being too loud. The overall design has paid homage to the time period, with the wheels being large, but a very period-correct classic design. Even the chrome front end almost resembles a vintage Morgan. It has side exhausts, fitted flush into the bodywork with chrome surrounds, rather than sticking out from underneath. Rather than having a big supercharger standing in front of the windshield (as is popular with hotrods, especially of this vintage), the designers of this build have chosen to have everything sit within the limits of the engine bay. In fact, the seller states that the hood is also available. Additionally, the metal trim has been overhauled. Inside, the theme continues with the grey interior. The leather bench seats have been replaced, and they now have seatbelts as well. The gauge cluster is an aftermarket one and is set in a silver base, which highlights the black gauges.

Engine

The original inline 4 engine has been upgraded to a fully built and bored Chevrolet V6 with the current owner reporting that it was assembled in the early 1980's with an upgraded camshaft, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, custom high rise intake manifold and oversized aluminum heads. It’s paired with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission (contrary to the manual appearance of the tall shifter) to drive the rear wheels through a 9” Ford rear end.
