Overview of 1949 MG TC RHD For Sale by Owner

The MG T Type marked the birth of open-top British motoring. Pre-war, the humble yet exotic car would spark a memory of blasting down a B road, top-down and all, and post-war cars like the MG TC ensured you could blast down a winding stretch of road top-down and knowing the worst is behind you. Looking to wash off the stress of yesterday? This 1949 MG TC RHD we have today is a neat way of going about it; it's a right-hand drive example built for the American market, making it road ready as well.

Exterior and Interior

The TC was the first post-war MG, and was a symbol of triumph and victory. Reflecting those values on this 1949 MG TC RHD is a lovely off-white exterior with a matching convertible soft top that hugs those 40s design cues and brings out the lovely chrome components on the exterior as well. The exterior is in great condition, with the owner reporting a repaint. Features like the twin rear lights and tubular chrome bumpers that are found only on US models are still present in the car. Summing up the whole design is a set of 19” Dunlop wire wheels that sport chrome MG center caps. Pulling off a green interior is very hard but the green interior on this 1949 MG TC RHD does it perfectly, and looks the part. The current owner reports a new interior that features a new period-correct MG steering wheel, new carpeting, and leather seats for extra comfort.

Engine

Underneath the lovely body design and away from the well-appointed interior, you will find what powers this classic British beauty. Under the hood lies a 1.3 L inline four powertrain that, at first glance, sparks an image of automotive art. The twin carburetors and the engine bay look just right and is reported to have run less than 1,000 miles since the rebuild. While it had only 54hp from the factory, which was a lot for its time, this particular powertrain is known to be highly tunable to release more ponies. The current owner reports new brakes for better stopping power. Power is sent to the car's rear wheels through a manual transmission reported to have been rebuilt and comes with a new clutch.
