Overview of 1950 Plymouth Deluxe PE Model Convertible For Sale by Owner

One of those historically significant automotive names, Plymouth was not only named after the famous rock, but also a brand of binder’s twine. Sadly this marque is no more, but they gave us some epic models such as the Roadrunner, Fury, Barracuda and more. Today, we have something a bit older, something from their 1940s collection. This 1950 Plymouth P20 Special Deluxe Convertible Restomod is part of the Plymouth De Luxe line that ran between 1933 and 1942, and again from 1946 to 1950. These full-sized cars came in various body styles, and this particular 40,928-mile machine is a lovely drop-top. It’s got a beige electrically operated convertible top, a newer 350ci V8, an automatic gearbox and more things to make every drive even sweeter.

Exterior and Interior

This 1950 Plymouth P20 Special Deluxe Convertible Restomod wears a nice coat of white paint and comes with a beige electrically operated power convertible top. This is excellent because the original top will doubtless have been manually operated, and rather cumbersome as a result. You’ve also got some nice aftermarket polished Magnum 500 wheels hosting BF Goodrich whitewall radial tires for a period-suitable, yet updated stance in the footwear department. There’s also some neat chrome detailing, including the front grille, bumpers and mirrors. Under the skin, we’re told that the front frame rails have been previously replaced. The interior of this 1950 Plymouth P20 Special Deluxe Convertible Restomod comes in brown and can take four adults with ease. It’s been kept mostly stock, but there’s a touchscreen controlled Bluetooth capable audio player installed in the center console, as well as some cup holders. We also see some auxiliary gauges have been added to monitor the upgraded powertrain.

Engine

This 1950 Plymouth P20 Special Deluxe Convertible Restomod packs a 350ci V8 that breathes through a 4-barrel carburetor. While the car will have originally had a manual gearbox, you’ve now got a 3-speed automatic transmission to drive the rear wheels, offering you a much easier driving experience. You’ve also got rack and pinion steering, as well as upgraded front disc brakes. Then, there’s Mustang II front suspension with adjustable front coilovers, as well as aftermarket rear shocks. The engine is also kept cool by way of an aftermarket radiator with an external electric fan.

During the Great Depression, as well as World War II, automakers were facing severe issues and shortages. This led to many going on hiatus in the critical years. That’s why you’ll find that Plymouth’s De Luxe range, initially introduced in 1933 would see production ceased from 1942 to 1946. Of course, they updated the design, as well as certain mechanical aspects when production resumed. This 1948 Plymouth De Luxe Station Wagon Woody is from that second window of production, and reflects a time when the war was over, and people were full of hope for a better future. With just 91 miles since a full restoration, it’s a great classic to add to your collection, and drive on weekends for all to enjoy.
