In the Fifties, owning and driving a Cadillac was a serious style statement, signaling that you wanted the best in American automotive luxury. The Series 62 was one of the brand’s full-size luxury car offerings, with a production span from 1940 to 1964, and seven generations in-between. This 1956 Cadillac Series 62 hails from the fourth generation and has undergone an extensive restoration process. With just 1,500 miles post-restoration, this Illinois car could be the ideal classic for you to add to your garage.
Exterior and Interior
The design of Fifties Cadillacs can best be described as distinctive. These are large cars, coming in at nearly 222-inches for the two-door convertible 1956 Cadillac Series 62 that you see here. Wearing a lovely dark green paintwork, this car has received new re-chromed bumpers, new paint on the interior, engine compartment and trunk jambs as well, new skirts, new tail lamp lenses and re-chromed hood crest, head lamp bezels and windshield frame. The doors and trunk have received new rubbers for better sealing. The convertible top is also new and presents itself in Mercedes-Benz tan, helping it stand out amongst the green exterior. It’s also received new window seats. When you want to make a statement, simply activate the green, fluorescent lighting underneath the car. This Series 62 rolls on a set of wire wheels that have been re-chromed and spokes on all five wheels (including the spare) replaced with stainless steel ones. New center caps with the Cadillac crest complete the wheels, which are wrapped by a set of Coker radial belted white-wall tires, including the spare wheel. Venture aboard this Fifties time capsule and the tan interior has also received extensive work, including new door sills, a re-built Wonderbar radio with FM chip, new interior seat covers, padding, rugs and padded dash, and new trunk carpet and sides.
Engine
This 1956 Cadillac Series 62 comes with the larger of two engine offerings at the time, the 365ci (6.0L) overhead valve V8 that sends drive rearwards via a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. This car’s engine has been re-built with just 1,500 miles since, the block was baked to remove all oil residues, and it’s got new pistons, rings, valve shafts, main bearings. The crankshaft has been re-milled. A new water pump, re-built radiator and thermostat-controlled electric fan ensure better cooling. It’s received Holley Sniper fuel injection for 2021, making messing about with carburetors a thing of the past. New leaf springs and shocks, new drum brakes, a new electric fuel pump and re-built front end with new tie rods and kingpins are amongst the extensive work that went into this car.
