Chevrolet’s Camaro was the return salvo of fire to Ford’s Mustang, as a contender in the pony car segment. The Camaro entered just two years after the Mustang did, in 1967 as a two-door hardtop and convertible. There were a host of option packages including the RS, SS and Z/28 on offer. This is an enthusiast owned and garaged 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 that has undergone a recent restoration to bring it to near-mint condition. It’s got less than ten miles since the restoration, and comes from Florida. If you are looking for a classic first-generation Camaro that’s in great condition and with power to back up the looks, here’s the ideal candidate! The restoration is reported to have been a full frame-off job, where everything right down to the nuts and bolts was done to period correct specifications.
The first-generation Camaro saw an extensive refresh in 1969 that gained it new sheet metal in many places to give it a sportier and more menacing look. This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro accentuates that mean stance with its blue paintwork and thick white racing stripes. The front bumper has been color matched, whilst the rear bumper gleams in all its chrome glory. Chromed wheels with brand new tires, dual outlet Magnaflow exhaust with downward-pointing tips and a discrete kicked-up decklid spoiler complete the muscle car look. The interior has been reupholstered in black houndstooth, and offers seating for four people. All gauges are in place, as is the period-correct radio and Vintage Air system. The gearshifter is a cueball-esque knob, and the three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel carries the Chevrolet logo on the center cap.
This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 came with a 396ci (6.5L) V8 Turbo-Jet V8 engine from the factory, which has received Edelbrock heads. The engine was rated for 375hp when new, and sends its power through the factory 4-speed manual transmission to Moser axles that have reportedly been re-geared with titanium gears. All fuel lines and the fuel tank have been refurbished with period-correct stainless steel. Power steering and power disc brakes on all four wheels round off the package.
