Overview of 1973 Pontiac Grandville Convertible For Sale by Owner

As the ‘70s automotive market was facing emission standards and impending fuel economy standards, the general management of Pontiac knew that their performance element was going to take a hit. Thus, the division launched a change in strategy to move Pontiac more up-market and toward more luxury-centric buyers. As a result, the Grand Ville was born as a sub-series trim package for the Bonneville. This exquisite example of the 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville Convertible comes to our inventory from Massachusetts with just 56,000 miles on its odometer. This classic land yacht is perfect for those who like to make a statement while putting a smile on vintage car lovers on the road.

Exterior and Interior

With the Grand Ville being the top-of-the-line model in the Pontiac lineup it exudes class and sophistication. It was the ideal vehicle for the American businessman, featuring a large chrome grille and bumpers, a wide hood, and four individual headlights. This example is finished in a gorgeous brown paint job, which was reportedly completed in 2019. The tan convertible soft top makes for the best of both worlds, making this Grand Ville a versatile machine. The ride height and comfort are taken care of by front independent suspension and rear 4-link solid axle with coils all around. This land yacht sits on its original 15-inch wheels wrapped in new Cooper tires while stopping power is provided by front power disc brakes and rear drum brakes. You step in through the massive doors onto a gorgeous brown leather-wrapped bench seat. With wood veneer and leather on every piece of trim you touch, this interior is truly a luxurious experience. It also has convenient options such as power windows, which were revolutionary in the 70s.

Engine

There were only two engine options for the Grand Ville, and the bigger, more powerful 455 cubic inch V8 powers our subject car. This churns 290 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. It is mated to the 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic, giving the car seamless, smooth shifts. The car's service history is reported to be up to date on this car as well, with a recent oil change.

SOLD

The Pontiac GrandVille is one of Pontiac’s lesser known nameplates. That’s because it was actually a sub-variant of the more popular Pontiac Bonneville. Produced between 1971 and 1975, nearly 300,000 were made. However, the Malaise Era of the seventies would be the death knell for this large, comfortable land yacht with its gargantuan V8 engine burbling away under the hood. Hence, you won’t find many GrandVilles around, making this 1975 Pontiac GrandVille something of an interesting, as well as relatively uncommon, find. The car is an all-original example that’s reportedly been owned by one family. Furthermore, we’re told that it’s all up-to-date on servicing.
