Overview of 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo Coupe For Sale by Owner

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is a Japanese automobile manufacturer best known for its Lancer sedans and its rally-inspired counterpart, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. While the Evos top the greatest-ever lists the world over, the brand produced a stunning front-engined grand touring/sports car. It was called the Mitsubishi GTO in Japan and the Mitsubishi 3000GT internationally. The 3000GT even sprouted a badge-engineered, mechanically identical model that was marketed and sold in the US by Chrysler under the Dodge Stealth nameplate. The GTO or the 3000GT was produced from 1990 to 2000 with various updates throughout its production run. Up for grabs is a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 turbo in the coupe configuration and comes with just 38,000 miles on the clock.

Exterior and Interior

The 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 was released with ten color options, and this 3000GT is finished in the Glacier White Pearl coat. The front of this particular car is host to the facelift where the aerodynamically-challenged pop-up headlights were replaced with quad projector-beam headlights. The front bumper hosts large vent openings alongside small, round projector fog lights. The rear holds a curved spoiler finished in the car's body color as well. It sits on a set of original 18-inch chrome six-spoke wheels with the Mitsubishi diamonds on the center caps, behind which lurk a set of large brake calipers with the Mitsubishi lettering in white. The interior is reported to be original and is upholstered in a tan color scheme which includes the electrically adjustable leather seats. Standard on the VR-4 version of the 3000GT is automatic climate control, power windows with automatic power windows for the driver's side, dual airbags, a new audio system, and a power sunroof. The seller is offering the car with two sets of keys and reports that maintenance records have been kept.

Engine

Considering that the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 was made to compete with the much-lauded Mazda RX-7 and the Nissan 300ZX, it is safe to say that the 3000GT was faster than both cars when new. To achieve that, Mitsubishi gave the 3000GT VR-4 a DOHC 3.0L V6 with twin-turbo and mated to a six-speed Getrag manual transmission which propels the car from a standstill to 60mph in 4.8-5.4 seconds. The total power output is 320hp along with 315 lb.ft of torque.
