Ford’s hit Mustang is the car that started the whole Pony car thing in the sixties when it hit the market in March 1964. Six generations later, the Mustang is still galloping strong. It’s a much-loved car on the streets and it has seen use in drag racing, circuit racing, drifting and stock car racing. With the fifth generation, the Mustang returned to retro-modern styling that incorporated iconic cues from the original with fresh 2000s design, and the sixth generation carried this torch forwards. The Mustang has been touched by many tuners too. The most notable one is Carroll Shelby with the Shelby Mustang range, but this one is a 2006 Saleen Mustang 468 Supercharged. Saleen is a company owned by American businessman and former racing driver Steve Saleen. Headquartered in California, the company builds its own sports cars, as well as tunes those from other manufacturers such as Ford and Chevrolet. This Saleen Mustang comes from Texas, is #1404 out of just 1,505 examples, and has 12,500 miles on the clock.

The fifth generation Mustang’s design was massively well received by the motoring public when it hit the market in 2005, and this 2006 Saleen Mustang 468 Supercharged is just that. It’s a convertible that’s painted in a lovely reddish orange hue and riding on a set of chrome alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires. It’s got a Saleen front and rear fascia, side skirts and wing, and a power dome hood with heat extractors. The sport bar and speedster package are present too, as it’s a convertible. On the interior, we find a black theme with Saleen-stitched seats and the signature of Steve Saleen adorns the dash, as well as a serial numbered plaque highlighting that this is indeed a limited-edition car. Saleen sport bucket seats are present, as are the Mustang’s Shaker audio system for your tunes.

The fifth generation Mustang came with three engines. Ford’s Cologne V6 in 4.0L (245ci) guise was the base, followed by the 4.6L (281ci) and 5.4L (330ci) Modular V8s. This 2006 Saleen Mustang 468 Supercharged has the 4.6L V8 (hence the 468) which has been breathed on courtesy of a Saleen 2.3L Series VI twin screw supercharger and treated to a Saleen Powerflash performance tune. The end result is 435hp, when the stock 4.6L V8 motor in naturally aspirated form made 300hp. This power is channeled to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. Saleen Race Craft suspension has been installed to enhance the handling in line with the power upgrade.
