This extraordinary vehicle began its life as a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Weighing in at just 2,620 lbs—approximately 500 pounds lighter than the original Z06 donor car—this meticulously engineered prototype represents hundreds of hours of planning and craftsmanship. This custom built 1 of 1 Carter Prototype being built by Legendary inventory George Carter offers a truly unique vehicle that looks perfectly at home on the Circuit de la Sarthe. With the documentation making this Le Mans style race car road legal, you can drive this one of a kind creation on the streets of your town.

Exterior and Interior

It is explained that the inspiration for this unique build came from the Le Mans prototype racer, the BMW V12 LMR, paying homage to the low open air cockpit in a low sweeping body. All body work has been custom-made, with it being approximately three inches wider than the donor Corvette. The panels themselves are made of fiberglass reinforced with vinyl ester resin. The current owner reports that the custom body work with all molds are included in sale and are valued at about $50,000. There is a kevlar firewall and of course the open air cockpit. The car was painted in 2013 and features a functional rear wing. The wheels are forged aluminum rims from Weld Racing wrapped in Nitto tires. Getting over speed bumps is aided thanks to the custom nose lift, which has been installed using 4-inch air bags controlled by a remote.

Engine

Under the hood lies a 5.7L LS6 V8 engine, meticulously enhanced to improve upon the original formula. The engine has been repositioned approximately eight inches rearward for superior weight distribution, and the torque tube between the engine and rear transaxle has been shortened. Performance modifications include long tube headers, aftermarket catalysts, and a cold-air intake, resulting in an estimated 455 hp, up from the stock 405 hp. This power is delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The vehicle retains the original Z06 fuel tank and rides on LG Motorsports springs and shocks with coil-over dampers. Braking is managed by disc brakes, and driver inputs are made via a squared racing Sparco steering wheel. In summary, the 2002 Carter Prototype Le Mans Styler Racer is a remarkable fusion of engineering prowess and design ingenuity. Its custom bodywork, advanced engineering, and race-inspired aesthetics make it a standout choice for enthusiasts seeking a unique and powerful vehicle that is significantly lighter than the C5 Z06 it was based upon.
