Overview of 2005 Chevrolet SSR LS For Sale by Owner

Now here’s an interesting curio from the Two Thousands. The Chevrolet SSR was a convertible pickup truck with a retractable hardtop! Produced over three short years from 2003 to 2006, this interesting pastiche of retro and modern styling cues saw 24,500 units made, and 24,112 were offered to the public. It came with a brawny V8 under the hood, of course, driving the rear wheels for that quintessential muscle truck experience. Now, we’ve got a 34,061-mile 2005 Chevrolet SSR for sale right now. Hailing from Deming, New Mexico, this truck is the perfect oddity for the discerning collector or petrolhead who wants to own something quirky, unusual, and above all, American.

Exterior and Interior

The Aqua Blur color worn by this 2005 Chevrolet SSR is fantastic for such a quirky oddity because it’s got a sort of color-shifting hue to it. Depending on light and viewing angle, it moves from a deep greenish hue to something close to the purple spectrum of light, and of course, a mid-blue. But that all pales in comparison to the truck’s retro-modern styling, single cab design and twin tailpipes at the rear. In fact, Chevy’s design inspiration for the SSR was the 1940s Advance Design series of trucks. Interesting features include staggered wheels, a body-colored tonneau cover for the truck bed, and of course, that power-retractable hard top. The interior of this 2005 Chevrolet SSR is a two-seat affair and comes with power windows, power door locks, power mirrors and air conditioning. You’ve also got a Bose speaker system and an upgraded Kenwood Excelon double-DIN head unit with AUX and USB inputs. The truck also includes a multifunction steering wheel, sport pedals and a metal gear shift knob.

Engine

Under the hood of this 2005 Chevrolet SSR lies a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 that was introduced to the line-up for the 2005 model year. The engine reportedly makes 390hp and is paired with a 6-speed Tremec manual gearbox. As you’d expect, rear-wheel drive is standard. Chevy says that the SSR in this spec can sneak in at under 6 seconds in the key 0-60 benchmark. Of course, you’ll look good and sound great doing so.

What if we told you that Chevy made a coupe utility – basically a coupe styled pickup truck, stuck a V8 under the hood, and gave it a retractable hardtop for the passenger cabin for an extra measure of craziness? Yes, that’s precisely what the GM engineers did with the SSR. Produced between 2003 and 2006, just 24,112 units were sold to the public. Today, the SSR represents a curio that’s a sure-fire future classic, but also an example of what happens when you give automotive engineers and designers free reign to create something truly unique. This 2005 Chevrolet SSR is up for grabs in Lancaster, with a decent 128,000 miles on the clock. It’s a great choice for anyone seeking an SSR, because in 2005, the model got an upgraded 6.0-liter LS2 V8 that had 90hp more than the 5.3-liter unit installed for 2003 through 2004 units. This vehicle has that, plus a set of staggered painted aluminum wheels, and automatic gearbox, and infinite quirkiness.
