The Toyota Land Cruiser has forged a reputation as a formidable off-roader, and it’s done so in nearly all countries where it is, or has been sold. Introduced in 1948, it’s Toyota’s longest-running badge, and today, is available in multiple forms. Along the way, there have been many iconic Land Cruisers, and today’s 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 comes from the J40 era. Made between 1960 and 1984, the J40 also saw production in Brazil, from 1968 until 2001. With its timeless styling, simplistic yet capable mechanicals and formidable off-road chops, the J40 is the default choice for many who want to go anywhere that a road doesn’t exist. Today’s 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is no different, but it’s got a rather tasty surprise under the hood. Read on to find out more.
The Toyota Land Cruiser: It’s one of the top off-roaders in the world, with a rich history dating back to 1951, making it Toyota’s longest-running nameplate. For many, a Land Cruiser is the best four-by-four, full stop. Others have made similar vehicles and continue to do so, but few can touch a properly driven and purposefully upgraded Land Cruiser in the truly rough stuff of the wilderness. Plus, the Land Cruiser has a distinctive reputation for reliability that few of its rivals can even come close to. There’s a popular saying “others may take you there but a Land Cruiser will bring you home”. So, if you’re a Land Cruiser aficionado or just looking to buy a weekend off-roader, check out this 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Restomod from Dania Beach, Florida. With a full restoration under its belt, this timeless machine has reportedly done just 185 miles since then, and packs some neat modern features too.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is the most well-known Japanese four by four on the market. There’s no two words about it. Introduced in 1951, the nameplate is Toyota’s longest-running one to date. There have been many series, broken up into heavy duty, light duty and station wagon segments. Today’s 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80 comes from the J80 series from the station wagon line-up. The J80 ran between 1990 and 1997, and was considered to be the first luxury Land Cruiser to emerge from this hallowed line-up. Our vehicle in question resides in Chesterfield, Virginia, and was imported into the United States in 2024. With just under 66,000 miles on the clock, this iconic off-roader could be yours.

Toyota’s MR2, or Midship Runabout 2-Seater, is a small, mid-engined roadster produced by Toyota from 1985 to 2007, spanning three generations. Its rear-wheel drive configuration and excellent weight balance make the MR2 a fantastic car for keen enthusiasts who are looking to learn the techniques of performance driving, albeit at a lower level of horsepower. The car’s light weight and relatively frugal powertrains also lent themselves well towards decent fuel economy, resulting in a very sensible vehicle that was also fun. You don’t find those two words in the same sentence when talking about most cars. So, if you want something that ticks those boxes while adding a third box called “Definitive Future Classic”, check out this first-generation 1988 Toyota MR2 that’s up for sale in Los Angeles by its second owner. It’s done just 36,600 miles and comes with a 1.6L supercharged engine to enjoy in it's completely original state as it left the factory .
