The 4 Series model stirred the pot ever since it came out. First, it was the name change from 3 Series to 4 Series, and then with the second generation, it was the enormous front grille, also known as beaver teeth. That's why we are happy to report that the 2025 4 Series Coupe doesn't add to its controversial history. The 2025 4 Series Coupe gets redesigned lighting elements both front and rear and some minor interior changes. But the drivetrain is where most of the changes reside. All 4 Series Coupes now get hybrid systems as standard including the base four cylinder which can now turn itself into a Miller cycle on the go for improved efficiency. All this means the 4 Series Coupe is now more expensive than ever, so let's see if the changes justify the price increase. But before that, if you are looking for a 4 Series or any other BMW, check out the ones we have available at Exotic Car Trader.
Not much has changed on the outside of the 2025 4 Series Coupe which is unfortunate in most people's eyes. Regardless, some positive changes did happen. For example, the headlights now feature a different daytime running light design which strays away from the typical BMW angel eyes. The new design features double vertical lighting elements and whether or not it's an improvement is up for debate and down to personal preference. The rear, however, is objectively better as it now gets BMW's laser light technology as standard which makes the lighting elements look a generation ahead of most of its competitors. The rear lights are also entirely red now instead of having a smoked top part. And while that might make it look less sporty, it does upscale the model quite a bit. The 2025 4 Series Coupe also gets new wheel designs, and new wing mirrors that resemble those found on the first generation M4.
The most noticeable change on the inside of a 2025 4 Series Coupe is the steering wheel. While the basic shape is very similar to the old design, it's now noticeably deeper, almost resembling a deep dish drift steering wheel. Also, the bottom spoke is now hollow and is made out of CNC-milled aluminum which can be seen when looked at from the passenger seat. A racing stripe on the top is also available in higher trim models, all of which add to the sporty experience. While we are on the topic of sporty, the 4 Series Coupe now gets two-tone sports seats as standard. Apart from that, the 4 Series gets redesigned vents and the latest 8.5 iDrive system. The latest iDrive system comes with QuickSelect which introduces more efficient and more intuitive shortcuts, something all drivers are desperate for during this touchscreen boom.
The 2025 4 Series Coupe keeps the current two engines on offer, but the drivetrains are thoroughly redesigned. To start off, both engines are now mild hybrids as standard, the 430i and the M440i. The hybrid motor only pushes out 11 horsepower so you won't get an EV level of acceleration, but the instant torque does help the ICEs become more responsive at lower RPMs and they improve efficiency. The four-cylinder engine in the 430i is also thoroughly redesigned and everything from the combustion chambers to the valve train is new. And the new valve train is what allows the four-cylinder to turn into a Miller cycle engine when cruising which helps improve efficiency when maximum power isn't needed. Unfortunately, the official MPG ratings are yet to be released so we don't know how big of an improvement those changes will yield. But they should be noticeable as the four-cylinder still produces the same 255 horsepower as before, while the M440i gets four horsepower more for a 386hp total.
No BMW 4 Series was ever cheap so don't expect any discounts when it comes to the 2025 4 Series Coupe. That said, the price increases are nothing dramatic with today's inflation or at least nothing we haven't seen even with other cheaper brands. For example, the entry-level 430i used to start at $48,395 while the 2025 generation starts at $51,695. That's a small increase considering all the improvements to the drivetrain and the latest iDrive system. However, the M440i now starts at $65,245 which is a $6,000 increase. Considering that the six-cylinder engine is still the same as it was before, the M440i is arguably less of a bargain than the 430i. Still, nothing beats a BMW straight six so we don't doubt the price increase won't deter many customers.
Ultimately, the 2025 4 Series Coupe is just a minor update when it comes to interior and exterior design, but we have to say that it makes a difference. And the changes in the interior are arguably even more subtle, we have to say that the new steering wheel alone takes the interior to a whole new level. Also, the fact that the hybrid system is now standard is a huge improvement despite the price increase for the M440i. And the most notable difference comes with the 430i which essentially gets a whole new engine, but we are yet to find out its benefits.
