MG or Morris Garages is still around to this date. They started off as a maker of British family and sports cars, and this 1957 MG Magnette ZB Varitone is one of their stalwarts from the Fifties. It’s a four-door family sedan with a 1.8-liter straight four under the hood, delivering the kind of fuel economy that Fifties American cars could only dream about. This example has covered 75,000 miles and is up for grabs in Cadott, Wisconsin. It’s got a Varitone two-tone paint scheme and also boasts a reupholstered interior.
Exterior and Interior
The two-tone Varitone paint theme on this 1957 MG Magnette ZB Varitone comprises burgundy-colored lower portions of the car, with gray uppers such as the roof, pillars, door tops, hood and trunk lid. It makes for a very interesting appearance, especially as this car also has a nice set of 15-inch steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and whitewall tires. There’s chrome trim as well. The interior of this 1957 MG Magnette ZB Varitone has been reupholstered in red Conolly leather and features the famous three-spoke Banjo-style steering wheel that many period MG models came with. Another MG signature is the semi octagonal shape of the gauges, beautifully inlaid within the Mahogany dashboard and interior trim. The car also has polished wood door cappings, creating a fine atmosphere for up to five adults who can easily travel inside. There’s a push-button radio, and if you look at the driver’s floorboard, you’ll see a button mounted next to the clutch pedal. That’s for the headlamp flasher! The car also has lap belts for some safety. Meanwhile, there’s a decently spacious trunk out back with a full-size spare wheel.
Engine
This 1957 MG Magnette ZB Varitone comes with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that’s received the 5-main bearing upgrade for better smoothness and reliability.
