After the monumental success of the first-series E-Type, Jaguar needed a successful follow-up in the coming decade. Other manufacturers were making catching up, and the perfection that is the E-Type needed a touch of modernity. The XKE was Jaguar's answer. Part of the same family of cars, if the E-Type was the sign of rambunctious youth and vitality, the XKE was a slightly mature, more dignified sibling thanks to the smoother ride and performance of its massive V12. Needless to say, the car was an instant hit, putting Jaguar on the map once again in the sports car world. This particular Jaguar XKE Roadster comes from the 1973 model year and has undergone a complete restoration in 2021, with a rebuilt engine and transmission by none other than Jimmy Smith of Boston, GA, according to the current owner. The current owner also reports that the numbers are matching in this vehicle, a great sign for collectors, among whom this XKE is particularly popular and has a new paint job as well. With a few modern components, this Jaguar XKE has been fully restored to its former glory and has over 57,000 miles on the clock, less than 7,400 of which is with the newly rebuilt engine, proving this car's longevity and making this Jaguar the ideal choice for any enthusiast's garage.
Exterior and Interior
The usual design language of the E-Type still shines through the refreshed look of this XKE Roadster, with the smooth curves that follow it from front to back. Featuring an Azure Blue exterior that is reportedly a new clear coat of paint, this XKE looks sharp and is an absolute showstopper whether it be on the highway, at a stop light, or parked on the side. Stepping inside, you'll find that the biscuit tan leather interior matches the color of the convertible top. The whole interior has been well preserved and has the usual Jaguar opulence to it. The seats are comfortable, and with a new clock and nary a touchscreen in sight, Jaguar's interior is a space you don't feel like leaving.
Engine
This is even more so thanks to its powerful 5.3L V12 strapped to the front. The massive engine delivers power smoothly to the wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, allowing its driver to fully feel the car. The newly rebuilt transmission and carburetor work well, as does the electrical system, fuel tank, master cylinder, and hoses, as well as the suspension system, all of which the current owner reports to be new, confirming that this Jaguar has plenty of life in its tank, and is the perfect car, in every form or manner.
Few automobiles are as instantly recognizable as the Jaguar E-Type, a machine that has long been celebrated for its stunning design and engaging driving dynamics. This 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II 2+2 Coupe is a fascinating survivor story, having spent decades in storage before being recommissioned and returned to the road. Showing 78,775 miles, this example pairs Jaguar’s legendary 4.2-liter inline-six engine with the highly desirable 4-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in Dark Blue over a Biscuit interior, the car retains many of the characteristics that made the E-Type an icon of the automotive world. For enthusiasts seeking a usable classic with documented history and an authentic character, this Series II 2+2 presents a unique opportunity to experience one of Britain’s most celebrated sports cars.
One of the prettiest cars in the world, the Jaguar E-Type was so breathtaking when it launched in 1961 that it reportedly was able to even captivate the heart of Enzo Ferrari! Called the XK-E for the North American market, it was made between 1961 and 1974 and offered in coupe and convertible variants. Purists argue that the coupe is the better looking of the two, and if you’d like to join in the discussion, why not get some ammo? Here’s a 1967 Jaguar XK-E 2+2 for sale from Cincinnati, Ohio. It’s a wonderful specimen of one of the most prolific cars of the Sixties and is an excellent future investment too.
When it was launched in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type (or XK-E to us in North America) was reportedly called the most beautiful car ever made. This claim is said to have come from none other than Enzo Ferrari, although it remains to be substantiated. Either way, there’s no denying the impact that the E-Type would have on the motoring world. Long, low and sleek, Jaguar claimed it to have a 150mph top speed. Whether that was true or not (spoiler alert, it was initially not, then it came to be), the E-Type remains one of the most desirable classic cars in the world to this day. So, here’s a lucky find, a 33,219-mile 1968 Jaguar XK-E from Pennsylvania. This Series 1.5 car is a 2+2 and has received some refreshment to keep it at its peak.
The 1999 Jaguar XK8 Convertible represents Jaguar’s return to the classic grand touring formula, combining British elegance, open-air motoring, and the smooth performance of a naturally aspirated V8. As the successor to the XJS, the XK8 introduced Jaguar’s modern aluminum-intensive design language while maintaining traditional luxury touches such as wood trim, leather upholstery, and a refined driving experience. Finished in British Racing Green over an Oatmeal leather interior with a Tan convertible soft top, this example shows approximately 37,115 miles and features desirable equipment including chrome plated wheels, Harman Kardon premium audio, and the All-Weather Package.
The 1988 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas represents the height of traditional British luxury from Jaguar’s renowned Series III era, combining elegant styling, handcrafted appointments, and a smooth inline-six powertrain. As the top-tier Vanden Plas model, it offered enhanced levels of refinement through premium materials and exclusive interior features while maintaining the timeless character that defined the XJ sedan. This example shows approximately 34,086 miles and is finished in Bordeaux Red Metallic over a Barley interior, featuring desirable luxury appointments including burl walnut wood veneer, veneered rear picnic tables, power adjustable leather seats, and factory alloy wheels. With its low mileage, classic Jaguar styling, and carefully appointed cabin, this XJ6 Vanden Plas represents a compelling example of a period-correct British luxury sedan.
The 1995 Jaguar XJS Convertible represents the final evolution of Jaguar’s iconic grand touring roadster, combining elegant British styling, luxurious appointments, and effortless cruising capability. This example has traveled 86,106 miles and is finished in Signal Red with a Tan interior and Tan convertible soft top, creating a timeless color combination that complements the XJS’s classic lines. Powered by Jaguar’s refined AJ16 inline-six engine, this XJS offers a smooth and comfortable driving experience while retaining the character and craftsmanship that defined Jaguar’s legendary grand touring cars. Additional features including wood interior trim, 15-inch alloy wheels, and the factory AM/FM cassette audio system complete this well-equipped example.
