Ford’s Thunderbird heralded the arrival of the ‘personal luxury car’ segment, way back in 1954. The Detroit automaker intended it as an upscale two-seat model, but economics dictated that it offers four-seat options as well. Fondly known as the T-Bird, it was produced over ten generations from the 1955 to 1997 model years before bowing out. However, in 2002, Ford released a retro-modern T-Bird as a homage to the original, and just over 68,000 were produced in its three-year run. This model was also featured in the James Bond film ‘Die Another Day’, driven by Halle Berry’s character. Here’s a nice 2004 Ford Thunderbird Premium Merlot Package from our inventory that’s ideal if a T-Bird is your thing. It’s for sale by the original owner, the window sticker is available and has done just 35,000 miles.

The eleventh generation was styled by Jack Telnack and incorporated several hark-backs to the original, including the overall shape, front headlamp profile and the circular portals on the C-pillar. This 2004 Ford Thunderbird Premium Merlot Package sports a classy Merlot paintwork and the rare 80 Spoke wheels. It’s also got chrome ring trims and the premium package. The Merlot-painted hardtop is removable and can be kept at home if you desire since the car also features a Light Sand-colored convertible top and matching tonneau cover. It also has supplemental parking lamps and the premium package. The interior is done in black and saddle, and features heated driver and passenger seats, dual-zone climate control, AM/FM radio with in-dash 6CD changer and the Audiophile sound system for your listening pleasure.

This 2004 Ford Thunderbird Premium Merlot Package sits on the Ford DEW98 platform that also underpinned the Jaguar S-Type, Jaguar XF and Lincoln LS since Jaguar was a Ford brand during that period. The engine is the Jaguar AJ35 3.9L (238ci) V8, which gained variable valve timing and electronic throttle control in 2003, and more power as a result. Thus, in this car its rated to put out 280hp and 286lb.ft to the rear wheels through a Ford 5-speed automatic transmission, making it a fine cruiser that can cut a respectable dash when pressed. Disc brakes all round provide the stopping power.

This 1957 Ford Thunderbird is powered by the desirable 312ci Y-block naturally aspirated V8 paired with a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. Finished in black over a white vinyl interior with a gray convertible soft top, it also includes the removable hard top — a defining feature of the final-year first-generation Thunderbird. Recent documented service reflects significant investment into the car’s mechanical systems, with major attention given to braking, fuel delivery, cooling, steering, and ignition components. This is not simply cosmetic upkeep — it is substantive mechanical sorting aimed at drivability and reliability.

The 1956 Ford Thunderbird represents the second year of Ford’s first-generation “personal luxury car,” a model that blended sporty styling with everyday comfort. Designed to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette while offering greater practicality, the Thunderbird quickly became one of the most recognizable American cars of the 1950s. For 1956, Ford introduced several improvements including the distinctive porthole hardtop windows and rear-mounted spare tire option, both of which enhanced the car’s character and functionality. Finished in striking Peacock Blue with a contrasting Colonial White hardtop, this Thunderbird captures the elegance and optimism of mid-century American automotive design while remaining one of the most iconic classics of its era.

The Personal Luxury Car was created in America by Ford, with their Thunderbird. From 1955 to 1997, ten generations were made, each one embodying the spirit of luxury grand touring. An eleventh generation was created between 2002 and 2005, as a homage to this spirit of excellence. But what better way to celebrate the T-Bird’s glorious legacy than to get yourself a first-generation example? Lo and behold, we present this 1957 Ford Thunderbird from Chicago. It’s done 57,300 miles and is powered by a 312ci V8. Morevoer, it’s got aftermarket air conditioning, the original steering wheel, original jack and spare wheel, and has received reupholstering of its interior. So, it’s pretty much ready to go on a journey with you.
