The Mercedes Benz SL was first produced as a race car giving it a rich heritage. Later made into a road-legal version, the first generation SL gained huge success, especially in the states and Mercedes went on to make seven generations. Each iteration was unique and had its own appeal and our subject car belongs to the 5th generation. This is a stunning 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG that has been diligently maintained and is packed with memories spanning 105,000 miles.

The 5th generation SL was engineered as a grand tourer, with a long hood, wide arches, and ample space for luggage. This example, being an SL 55 AMG, is outfitted with sporty exterior touches as a part of the AMG Styling Pack such as aggressive bumpers, side skirts, and a spoiler. The beautiful lines and AMG kit are accentuated by the Tanzanite Blue Metallic paint job. The 5th generation SL was only available with a retractable metal hard top and the hydraulic cylinders have been replaced on this car for hassle-free operation. The upgraded front grille with one lateral bar instead of five modernizes the front end. The car sits on 19" AMG alloy wheels with new Falken tires on all four corners. Despite the mileage, the interior of this 2003 Mercedes Benz SL 55 AMG has been preserved beautifully with the grey leather that still looks fresh. The deep wood veneer and plastic trim frames the knobs and buttons to give the cabin a refined touch.

Popping the hood of this SL 55 AMG reveals its 5.5 liter supercharged M113 V8 that pushes out a respectable 493 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This example is far from stock and has been treated to a K&N air filter and a smaller supercharger pulley to improve the performance of this big German V8. All services are up to date as well with oil and spark plugs being changed recently. This massive power plant is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission which has been serviced recently. Belt wrap has been installed to prevent the belt from slipping under boosted performance. A recent break pad replacement ensures that this car maintains the stopping power it needs.

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is the most popular two-door luxury grand tourer in the brand’s hierarchy. It’s been around since the 1950s, and has always offered buyers the best blend of luxury, comfort and seamless long-distance cruising ability. With the latest R232 generation, the SL became a Mercedes-AMG product. It went back to being a 2+2 after a few generations of solely offering two seats, and swapped out the previous generation’s sophisticated but tricky to maintain folding metal roof for a more conventional multi-layer soft top. All that, plus some heady tech and performance gains are what you can expect with this 4,100-mile 2025 Mercedes-AMG SL55 from Eria, Colorado. This car packs a V8 with twin turbos, MANUFAKTUR Monza Grey Magno paint, 21-inch AMG 10-spoke Y-design wheels in black, the Driver Assistance Package, and so much more.

Performance that is subtle is the right type of smiles per gallon. When you are loud and brash, one does expect the performance to back it all up, but if you choose to fly under the radar and still sting when heavy on the gas pedal, smiles per gallon quickly ensue.
