Toyota’s Land Cruiser is a legendary off-roader that’s right up there with the very best. Since 1951, Toyota has been churning out the Land Cruiser or ‘Rando-Kuruza’ in Japanese. The Land Cruiser has seen use on all seven continents, including Antarctica. Chances are, you will encounter one in almost every country. 2021 sees the latest J300 series enter the market which brings yet more luxury, refinement, and capability; however, it will not be sold in North America. Hence, this J200-series 2017 Land Cruiser VX-R from Colorado with 25,000 miles on the clock is the last of a kind. If you’re looking for a go-anywhere yet refined V8 off-roader to carry the entire family plus the dog, and a healthy dose of Japanese reliability to boot, step right this way!

The Land Cruiser has been produced as a station wagon, cab chassis, convertible, and pickup truck during its seventy year history. This 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser VX-R maintains the iconic silhouette of its predecessors. The platform and overall design cues are shared with the Lexus LX570, and sits on a shortened second-generation Tundra platform. This clean white example looks great, but the beauty of a Land Cruiser is, it looks equally as good with gleaming paintwork as it does post-mud bath. Double-five-spoke 18-inch Toyota alloys wrapped in meaty Michelin tires complete the look. The tailgate is a split-opening design where only the top half can be opened if desired. The interior features a Saddle Brown color scheme and seats up to seven occupants. The third row can be folded up for more luggage space. Creature comforts include a four-zone climate control, full infotainment system with navigation, rear screens, USB/AUX ports and 14-speaker JBL Synthesis sound system, heated steering wheel, electric, heated and cooled front seats and heated second row seats. A sunroof is also present.

This 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser VX-R comes with a brawny 5.7L (348ci) 3UR-FE gasoline V8 engine that puts out 381hp and 401lb.ft of torque to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and four wheel drive system that includes high and low ranges, as well as Toyota’s CRAWL system that helps the vehicle maintain a steady speed off-road. It’s also got downhill cruise control, multi-terrain ABS that works with the disc brakes on all wheels, Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, and is rated to tow up to 3,700kg (8,200lb).

Now here’s a golden oldie of the off-road community. This red and white 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ45 is a long wheelbase pickup variant that’s perfect for someone who’s a fan of classic pickups, Japanese vehicles and off-roading. It’s now available in Miami with 124,000 miles on the clock, but you wouldn’t guess based on appearance alone. Yup, this pristine machine comes with a 3.6-liter straight six diesel engine under the hood, a manual gearbox, and a part-time four-wheel drive system. Thanks to its body on frame construction, it’s pretty versatile in the rough stuff too. Indeed, this vehicle’s clean and fresh appearance may lead you to believe otherwise, but this is one beauty that can turn into a beast if needed.

The landcruisers line up is long and has been around for more than a quarter of a century, and in that time each model has pulled on the heartstrings of collectors. The J60 is a collector's favorite and finding one that has its original bones intact is a very big challenge. Present today is that elusive find that you scour the interwebs for and takes shape with this 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62. Hailing from Tehachapi, California, this classic Japanese off-roader is a rarity thanks to its originality.

The Fifty Series or J50 Toyota Land Cruiser is one of those comparatively lesser-known sorts in the United States. Produced between 1967 and 1980, it marked the start of the Station Wagon line-up of the Land Cruiser family, the ones that were slightly less hardcore than the Heavy Duty series, and more SUV-like. Today’s 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 is a fine example that’s weathered the test of time over the years. Now, it sits proud in Chapel Hill waiting for a new owner, and rocks just 305 miles after a full frame-off restoration. If you’re a Land Cruiser fan but want something a little less mainstream, this vehicle is perfect!
