The Bel Air is a full-size car that was introduced to the world by Chevy in 1949 and had a long run of thirty-one years in production. The second-generation Bel Air, such as the example in discussion here, proved to be more powerful and stylish than the previous model and was considered an icon during the fifties. This beautiful 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door Convertible looks like it just rolled out of a Chevy showroom. Located in California, it’s already highly sought after by car collectors around the world.

The 56 Bel Air received a facelift with the addition of a more conventional Chevy flavored grille, as the previous year’s model received negative feedback from customers who weren’t impressed by the Ferrari-inspired front end. This Bel Air has undergone a body-off restoration and effortlessly turns heads, with its black and white two-toned body paint and gleaming chrome front and rear bumpers, and full-width grille, as well as new chrome molding along the side of the body to outline the two-toned paint job. The car sits on a set of whitewall tires and chrome hubcaps, and is supported by brand new suspension, along with an attractive brand new convertible soft top and new exhaust to complete the sporty look of this coupe. The distinctive interior hosts a set of white and grey leather seats and door panels, which complement the exterior beautifully. Upon further inspection, you are able to identify the gloss black dashboard, fitted with a chrome dash panel that includes retro-styled radio and speedometer. The beautiful chrome-trimmed steering wheel has a classic style to complete the look of a true 50’s icon.

The Bel Air hosts a very special new Jeggs Crate 350ci, 5.7L small block crate engine, with the ability to yield up to 250 horses. Included is a dress-up kit for that show car look. The engine is coupled to a 2-speed power glide transmission.

Chevy’s answer to Ford’s pony car challenge, the Camaro came in 1967 and brought a sister along for the ride, in the shape of the Pontiac Firebird. This was a smart move by General Motors as it allowed them to sell two suitably varied models in the same segment but with much of the same underpinnings, engines and other components. The Firebird was axed in 2002 but the Camaro continued to be made until 2024. That makes it the second longest-running pony car in history.
