Overview of 1991 Toyota MR2 MKII Turbo For Sale by Owner

The story of this legendary Japanese sportscar began in 1979 when lead designer Akio Yoshida set out to create an affordable mid-engine sports car that would be fun to drive and pose an imminent threat to its exotic European rivals. Yoshida was successful, and by 1984, Toyota rolled out Japan's first-ever mid-engine production car. The second-generation MR2 AW20 Turbo featured here is a one of a kind time capsule of JDM history that has just 81,500 miles and is currently located in Florida. Our subject car just completed its first belt service, comes with its original build sheet, six extra tires, and two keys!

Exterior and Interior

This striking red garage-kept 1991 Toyota MR2 MKII Turbo has been kept bone stock. It features its original paint with reportedly zero work done to the exterior paint. The exterior has the timeless looks of a mid-engine car, with an overall low-down stance and. Up front are pop-up headlights, which steal most of the attention from the long indicators engraved into the front bumper. The sides have functional air intakes to cool the engine that sits behind the cockpit. The rear end looks aggressive, with a low spoiler, bar like taillights, and dual exhausts. It even has the original Toyota wheels. Much like the exterior, the interior of this MR2 has been preserved. The dashboard appears to be in perfect condition and has fully functional gauges. In between a set of leather bucket seats is the high-rise center panel, giving passengers a more down-low, sports car feel. It also has a T-top with original storage bags as well as the original sunshades.

Engine

The 2L turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces just over 200hp to the rear wheels. Considering the MR2's light weight, it is a more than sufficient amount of power for the MR2 to deliver a fun and exciting driving experience. This turbocharged pocket rocket can go to 60mph from a standstill in a fraction over just 6 seconds.

Now here’s a car that’s the polar opposite of what Americans consider to be sporty. It’s a diminutive thing from the Nineties, with its little four-cylinder engine mounted behind the passenger cabin. Yet, the Toyota MR2 made waves in every country that it was sold. This Midship Runabout 2-seater (hence the name MR2) was produced across three generations from 1984 to 2007. Today’s 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo is a fine third-generation example that includes the original window sticker and owner’s manual with the sale of the car. Yes it’s got over 145,000 miles on it, but let’s not forget that it's a Toyota! 145,000 miles is mere chicken feed for this era of cars from the famed Japanese automaker.

Toyota’s MR2, or Midship Runabout 2-Seater, is a small, mid-engined roadster produced by Toyota from 1985 to 2007, spanning three generations. Its rear-wheel drive configuration and excellent weight balance make the MR2 a fantastic car for keen enthusiasts who are looking to learn the techniques of performance driving, albeit at a lower level of horsepower. The car’s light weight and relatively frugal powertrains also lent themselves well towards decent fuel economy, resulting in a very sensible vehicle that was also fun. You don’t find those two words in the same sentence when talking about most cars. So, if you want something that ticks those boxes while adding a third box called “Definitive Future Classic”, check out this first-generation 1988 Toyota MR2 that’s up for sale in Los Angeles by its second owner. It’s done just 36,600 miles and comes with a 1.6L supercharged engine to enjoy in it's completely original state as it left the factory .
